Marina 7×02 – Review

Alright!

Another week, another episode of Station 19!

Well, of Maya and Carina, because I do not care about anything else!

Let’s talk about what these two lovely ladies were up to this week!

Maya and Carina dealt with a nanny possibly having a contagious disease brought from some country. They were in the middle of trying to adopt baby Liam and were worried about whether or not they’d get picked. They had Andy submit something on their behalf. They worked together! Carina got served from a former patient who was literally in the clinic that day.

And then…

Baby Liam DeLuca-Bishop came home.

Sort of.

As I don’t view Station 19 as their home since literally no one really cares for the couple there. I mean, see last season when everyone thought the worst of Maya.

And somehow she’s the bad guy for giving the bottle to Beckett, but not Beckett for drinking it.

Because we don’t hold the men and women on this show to the same standards.

Rant over. (For now.)

Let’s talk about what we did get for Maya and Carina this week.

They were working together on a clinic case.

I loved the little look between them when Maya said ‘That’s what I said.’

Carina was so not having it in that moment. I love how playful they are with each other when the story allows for it.

Like Carina teasing Maya over the color of their toothbrushes when they were prepping for the green card interview.

These two have such amazing chemistry and it’s a damn shame they don’t get to run with it more often.

Because they play so well off each other.

Every moment in the clinic proved how well these actresses go together.

Maya calming Carina down when she was worried that if they were exposed they’d have to quarantine for 20 days, and they might move on the next candidates.

Side note: Could that happen?

Like I wouldn’t put anything past our government! But I’m just saying, if that couple is the first choice, the one decided to be the best place for the baby to be fostered and then adopted. Would you just move on the next couple because they had a hiccup?

Would you take the baby if they were already placed there if this situation happened later?

I have no idea. I’m just wondering.

Either way, I don’t blame Carina for being worried. This is the same government that tried to kick her out and then asked in her green card interview if she planned to commit genocide. Like logic has no place here.

I’m with her.

However, I loved that she turned to Maya for comfort.

Something we’ve seen her avoid in the past.

Not wanting to bother her or set her off.

Yet here, some of the worry has passed. Maya is here for the long haul. She’s ‘all in’ as she puts it.

She wants the baby and the house and her wife and the chaos and crazy that comes with those things because ‘Happily Ever Afters’ tend to be anything but peaceful. So Carina turns and leans on her wife.

Maya is right there.

Reassuring her. Taking it one step at a time and I love this version of Maya and how she has changed.

Instead of thinking 20 steps ahead as she normally does, she pushes pause. She’s here in the moment.

Because this could be nothing!

And it wasn’t, thankfully.

Panicking wouldn’t solve anything. Just make matters worse. Maya swiftly averted that for her wife.

Then their day goes on.

Carina returns to look for her patient from earlier. The one who would only be treated by her.

From the moment that she was introduced, I suspected something was off.

I knew Carina was getting sued the minute the other woman wandered into the barn at the end of the episode. I was like, oh shit.

However, upon first meeting the woman, I didn’t suspect a lawsuit was coming. Even after she was stuck there and spoke to Sullivan. I don’t know what I thought was going to happen.

Honestly, at this point I expect very little out of this show.

I was surprised that Carina was getting sued for the sheer sake of, they gave her a plotline. Like an actual plotline.

Do I expect it to be done well? Nope.

Not in the slightest.

I have low expectations for this season. Just saying.

However, I enjoyed the moment it gave us at the end, because that is true to adult life as anything I’ve ever seen. You will have some of the worst news ever and the best right at the same time, because life.

It was the most real thing I’ve ever seen on these shows.

I loved Maya comforting her wife and promising her that they would deal with it together. Only for Liam to placed with them.

Watching them get that phone call and Carina shouting ‘Now?!’ Simply perfect.

But my favorite was the moment when Carina was completely flustered.

I love that Carina is the one who wanted the baby in the first place, but when the time came, she’s the crazed one caught unprepared.

‘I have to get my coat!’

With Maya all calm and collected. ‘It’s in the car.’

Just grabs her wife and takes off for the baby without thinking about work or anything else. It could all wait. None of it mattered. Right now their son needed them to pick him up.

Honestly, with chemistry and easy moments like that, you could do away with everyone else, and still have a show.

See Stupid Wife on YouTube. (The name is off putting, but these two have a chemistry to rival Maya and Carina. So good!)

I disliked the moment when Liam is brought in because the focus is torn between all the characters, especially Jack and Liam.

Jack almost looked angry that they brought Liam in, stealing his spotlight.

But dude, you’ve been in crisis since season two. We’re over it. This little baby deserves to be celebrated!

And he’s so cute!

We do get an adorable image of Carina holding him and Maya making eye contact with him. As well as Carina being the overprotective one by shushing everyone when they walked in. Which I find hilarious!

I hope they play into that.

That while Carina has wanted this, she might not be as naturally gifted at motherhood as Maya is. Which would be the opposite of how you would think that should go and make it so much fun to see play out.

Overall, I love their story this season. I wish it had more focus. As I’ve said before, this show has too many characters not allowing for arcs to play out properly.

But at this point, I’m used to it.

And I have no interest in spouting the many reasons why this show is failing it’s audience, because they’re not listening.

Danielle and Stefania are to the audience and to them I have to say – they make these characters. Every moment they’re on screen counts because of these two and I cannot praise nor thank them enough for their brilliant performances!

I – for one – will follow their careers forever, though I hope to see them play Carina and Maya for many more years to come!

Thanks for reading! See you next week!
