There are those threads again.
Percy and Annabeth arguing and bickering like an old married couple. How can you not love that?
I love the little details added here and there.
Not to mention, we’re actually using in book lore with the rainbows to get Iris messages to people.
At least, until you’re about to ask for advice on how to deal with someone’s father when they have daddy issues to the extreme. And if you’ve read the book, you know what I mean. If not, keep watching.
The actor they picked to play Hermes was a great choice.
He’s not exactly what I imagined looks wise, but his choices as an actor definitely work. It’s how he sounded that made it work for me.
The Lotus casino was bonkers crazy.
Not eating anything is clearly no help. I even loved that Percy and Annabeth were better off, because they stayed together.
I loved the shape of the building. All the endless possibilities inside. People who have been lost there for decades. And the slight change of knowing what they were walking into.
Because yeah, Annabeth should notice all the traps before they step in them. She’s the smart one.
And while Percy is the slowest on the uptake, he is by no means stupid.
He’s just got too much seaweed between his ears.
But the thing I loved most about the Lotus Casino? They strap you into the VR machine so you can’t wander off the platform and hurt yourself. Such a nice thought thing from such an evil place.
I also enjoyed that true to form, the gods are no help.
Hermes won’t help. Per say.
He’ll just ignore that his car has been stolen by 12-year-old children. Yes, of course the God of Thieves noticed his keys got stolen.
Percy driving was chaos itself.
His delayed honk of anger was so hilarious to me. So well timed too.
The little cheering section going on, while he offers to let them do it, if they’re going to complain about his driving. To which neither of them want to.
Once again, proving this cast is the ideal choice.
I don’t care what anyone says, I’m willing to die on that hill.
One thing I want to point out for this series is the level of care taken with depicting the gods. They want to be there for their children, but they all suck at it. Or enforce weird rules for dealing with their kids that make no sense and hurt everyone.
It’s layered in how stupid they are at parenting.
I really enjoy that.
Not that it isn’t there in the book, but we see everything from Percy’s point of view. This time, it’s not colored by him. It’s just seen as it is and while Percy isn’t far off in how cold the gods are to their kids.
You get the sense that they’ve all been one way too long and no matter how much it hurts, the gods are going to stick to their tired old ways.
Welp, then we’re on a beach. Poseidon has rushed home to deal with the impending war, because they’re late.
They were in the Lotus Casino longer than they realized. Three days to be exact.
War is starting and shit is about to hit the fan.
But his father has come through with something. Pearls. To get him, his friends, and his mother out of the Underworld.
That ought to be interesting.
