Video Games

I’m going to say this right up front – I am not a gamer.

I enjoy video games, especially as I’ve gotten older, and my ability to play them improved. I’ve had several consoles over the years, but I’ve never been one to run right out and by the latest and greatest.

Honestly, as a kid, I’d usually get the systems months, maybe years after they dropped when a refurbished model came up at a decent price at GameStop. Which as a kid, I didn’t really care because video games weren’t my thing.

I played a ton of sports when I was younger.

Mostly softball.

I played video games on and off with some interest over the years but in the last couple or so my interest has sky-rocketed.

For me, it’s simple why.

I have a chronic illness that has developed in the last couple years, keeping me from a more active outdoor life for months at a time. In doing so, I had to find new ways to fill my time.

Thus, video games.

However, my interest has not made me into a gamer who has to have the latest and buy all the gadgets to go with them.

BUT, I have played more often than not in recent memory.

And I’m grateful to them because I’d be bored without them or even art as I try to navigate being stuck in a bed or a chair because I’m physically unable to go outside or lack the energy to do those things.

So, I’ll be sporadically reviewing video games for the Playstation systems 2 through 4 (because those are the consoles I have) and for Nintendo Switch.

Also, I would love for everyone to tell what their favorite video games are and what they recommend I play. I recently took a GameStop employee up on their suggestion to play Spider-Man and I’m loving it!

Not to mention, I recently acquired an Atari 2600 and an Atari Flashback for my mom, because her favorite childhood game was Circus Atari but it mysteriously vanished from her house as a child. When I saw them for sale I knew she’d want them.

She says it’s like part of her childhood was returned to her.

I write this now, because people hate video games because they might turn kids into monsters, but I don’t believe that.

My mom was giddy to play her favorite game.

A friend of mine’s son learned to read because of video games.
