SANVERS

2621c65574e5e296bf6130e2a2553ceb--alex-danvers-and-maggie-sawyer-supergirl-alex-and-maggieWe were so close! They were so close!

From the moment Maggie Sawyer appeared on our screens I knew something was going to happen between her and Alex. They just had such a connection from their first interaction.

Who doesn’t love that scene arguing over jurisdiction?

Watching Alex go through all the emotions of being complete oblivious to oh shit I’m gay was amazing. Chyler did an amazing job hitting all the notes perfectly. The scene that sealed the whole relationship for me was in the bar, Alex confesses Maggie may be right about her.

The sheer nervousness off Alex as she stammers through her whole conversation. The look of gay panic. It all paired perfectly with Flo’s quiet understanding. Flo played Maggie perfectly. Sometimes, we just need someone to gently nudge and nod in silence when something life changing happens.

Maggie was perfect throughout Alex’s coming out because she provided comfort, and a confidence in who she is Alex wanted to be. Her lying about her own coming out to Alex felt perfectly in character because she protect people, she helps people, and the cost is no matter to her.

On the flip side of the wonderfully done coming out story, Alex who thought she knew herself finds her whole world turned upside by the realization that she was wrong. She does come to terms with it quickly but it’s perfectly in character as well. Alex finds comfort and understanding in knowing herself completely now. Realizes that while Maggie brought it out, it’s not about the amazing woman she has feelings for but this is about getting herself.

And she did.

The whole ‘kiss the girls we wanna kiss’ was completely unexpected. I remember I missed the initial airing of this episode because I was away. I saw it late at night, sitting on the floor, and I remembered being so shocked the writers just up and made it happen. I thought for sure this would dragged on the rest of the season. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong.

I remembered shrieking with joy! Alex deserves some happiness, damn it. And so does Maggie.

Maggie quickly became one of my favorite characters to watch. Her horrible background with her parents, past relationships that went south, I kept thinking Alex was a perfect fit for her.

Alex is loyal, kind, caring, honest, passionate, and has a mix matched family made up of people who just love each no matter what.

Maggie is perfect for Alex. She’s smart, figured out the DEO, that Kara is Supergirl, understands Alex is linked to her sister first and foremost, loyal, compassionate, and a hero in her own right.

Not to mention I loved that Maggie brought a different perspective I wished could have been further explored. Maggie often mentioned offhand that the police can do their jobs. Especially when she felt Supergirl involved herself in places she didn’t belong.

Maggie offered up the average person’s views. She’s not working for the DEO. She doesn’t have powers. She’s not the media. She’s a real person, working a real job, with real dangers, and serious rules she doesn’t take lightly. I loved she had moments where she took offense to Kara getting involved in her job. Maggie became a cop for a reason, she believes in her work, and gets annoyed with people who flout the rules.

I also enjoyed Maggie and Kara coming to blows over where they stand in Alex’s life. It was a good honest argument that’s never shown enough on TV.

Just because Kara and Maggie like each other and love Alex does not mean they will automatically agree on everything. They have very different views of the world. I loved that Supergirl let them come to blows on it. But I also loved that at the end of the day they’d see other’s side and still care about each other.

Truth be told, the show wrote these two characters together so seamlessly they had no real way of ripping them apart, so the opted for the most clunky exit they could think of.

No, seriously, it would have made more sense if somewhere in the show before season three began Alex made a comment about being a mom. It would have been nice to not feel as if that popped out of no where.

Oh, wait, it did.

It also lacks sense considering Maggie Sawyer of the comics is a MOTHER. The story may have been better had the roles reversed.

It’s totally fine to do stories where people don’t want kids. I’m cool with that. It’s how you write it that makes all the difference. I had a friend who told every person he dated he didn’t want kids the moment they started dating so there would be no surprises. It lacks sense that this never came up before!

Aside from being bitter about the end of their relationship I loved Maggie and Alex, and like NYSSARA I will forever be holding onto hope they still end up together. 😉

maxresdefaultI mean look at them! They’re adorable.

They complete each other. They talk through their problems, they have fun, and they’re workaholics.

How can you not root for them to end up together?

As for their placement on my list, while I love them to pieces there are a few couples I enjoy a little more.

So, tell me how much you loved Sanvers! And what you think they’d be doing right now if they were still together!

Read on and spread the love!
