Ummm, Jon Kent is slammin to dinner. Apparently.

That’s so crash.

Anyway, about the episode itself – I have thoughts. So many thoughts that I don’t know where to start.

No wait, I do know! I called it!

I totally thought that Jon Kent looked like a perfect meddling of Clark and Lois’ animation styles. And he is! He is also a lovely blend of the two of them. A flying pick pocket.

I really enjoy that he has all his father’s powers. While also a lot of his mother’s skills so it would seem. However, he’s so excited for the world he’s landed in, most likely because his entire world looked like hell on earth the last we saw of it. Definitely a gleeful Clark like attitude for being in the past. To make the most of it.

Meanwhile, Lois is the only one asking the important questions in the midst of her freak out. Why is he here?

She repeats to herself and tries to ask him several times, but other things get in the way. Before at the very end of the episode, she finally pries it out of him. He’s there to save his parents and the future, because where he comes from, they’re both dead. All the heroes are.

Which all of this leads me to one important question – is Lois pregnant?

Because if Jon says he’s out of time, that means he must already exist right? But then how did we get to the moment in the photo if Clark is going to die, like tonight? He was holding his son at one point in Jon’s life.

So…?

I have so many questions.

And also, I love that while Lois was freaking out about being someone’s mom, she’s still Lois. Able to understand that Jon must have come here for a reason. Not just to go shopping and find cool shoes with wheels on them. There must be something he’s supposed to be doing.

Unlike Clark, Jimmy, and Kara – mostly Clark – who are just thrilled to meet him.

Lois is freaking out about the future already. Then it literally drops into her lap to call her mom. But since she’s freaking out, she can see the forest for the trees.

Why has their son come back?

Why is he so interested in spending time doing random things with them?

Like Jon was just so happy to watch her type at work. Which is a thing most children do when they’re very small. Everything mom and dad do, fascinates you at that age. You follow them around. You want to be with them all the time. Be just like them. However, by the time they’ve hit Jon’s age, typically they grow out of that.

Except here, he’s still doing it.

Wants to help his dad save the day, just the two of them.

Watch his mother work. Is thrilled to discover they have things in common like the foods they eat. It seems he’s somewhat interested in journalism. They are both fantastic pick pockets.

He just wants to be with them no matter what they’re doing.

Which gives Lois a great hint that she and Clark probably aren’t around in his life. That something horrible has brought him to this moment in time. This is not a for fun trip to the past to see what your parents were like when they were younger or something like that. Nope.

This leads me to the thing that is bothering me most about his trip to the past.

I get why he’s all into Lois and Clark. It would appear by all accounts, they’re no longer alive, and he wants to get to know them while he can. He’s also super excited to see his Uncle Jimmy and spend time with him.

But he actively appears to be avoiding Kara.

Who is so eager to get to know him. Share things with him. Like music. The silly mascot head thing she was wearing. Playing catch with him. And while I understand that he wants to spend as much time with his mother and father as possible. He’s not ignoring Jimmy the same way.

Did Kara do something? Is she not around? Did she leave him? I mean, what could be so awful that he doesn’t want to spend any time with her. That he’s choosing to actively ignore her.

He walked right around her several times or straight up brushed her off. What is going on there?

I hope there’s a really good explanation here and it’s not just brushed off.

Because this is clearly hurting Kara. She’s so overjoyed to have a nephew – essentially – to be his family. As until this moment, she and Clark were all that was left of Krypton. At least, from what I know. They’ve chosen to be each other’s family and love each other.

So it is soooo odd that Clark’s son doesn’t appear to want to bond with her in any manner.

Jeez, Jon. What’s going on there?

I really hope there’s some good pay-off to that. Especially for Kara’s sake. Poor thing is suffering and has no idea why he won’t spend time with her.

On the other hand, I give Clark credit for noticing it a couple of times and gently distracting Kara from her disappointment. Like putting on the silly mascot head with her to make her laugh. Being there when Jon rejects playing catch with her. Clark is kind in those moments, just a steady presence.

Oh, and I love that both of them didn’t even hesitate to rush off and face down Henshaw.

He threw down the gauntlet and both Clark and Kara were off. I really love the bond between these two. Because while they’re both incredibly different characters, they’re not that different at all. It also goes to show how much Kara has come to care about Clark and even Earth. She did not hesitate to come to its defense or her cousin’s.

She was there with him.

Then… Then there’s Jimmy who apparently is having the struggle of a lifetime getting a date that won’t transform him into something else. Seriously, what is going on at that dating service? Why is everyone doing experiments on their dates? Do you not screen for anything before you let people in???

I do not understand.

I also do not understand why Jimmy went back there. Sure, don’t generalize. Fair point. But dude, if you’re having doubts about the second date that you’re calling your friends to save you? Stop going back there.

It will not end well.

Oh and by the way, you have a girl that you’re completely in love with just sitting right there and she likes you as well. Yet instead of asking her out or accepting her romantic advances, you decided she should date other people. Then got mad when she did and decided to go with this dating service that forces you to go to Star Labs and get the terrible effects reversed. Or have your pines plucked.

That sequence I felt like Jimmy got what he deserved.

On the other hand, upon looking up the wikia page for this episode, I discovered this is based on a comic book story that happened in Jimmy’s comic. Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen. Whatever it was called. I really liked how they’re tying in a comic book series I never thought would ever be adapted and… work?

Like it works.

Sure, it’s hokey and ridiculous. But so is this Jimmy. So it fits. Plus, he’s kind of dumb when it comes to affairs of the heart so it’s the perfect place to take some crazy stories and bring them to life.

Because this show does the on the nose comic humor so wonderfully.

Where your date turns into a giant. Your son comes back from the future. Kara takes holding the globe a little too seriously. Jon touches things he shouldn’t. We make friends with a gay talking gorilla. Or you know, when the supers fly off, the humans get stuck on the locked roof.

That sort of thing.

I loved that tidbit so much. Because I often wonder how they get down and it’s nice to see that it’s a struggle. I would also kill the super when they came back.

Like, please get me off the roof before you fly off! I cannot get down without you. If I needed you to get up, I need you to get down. Thank you!

Overall, this was a great episode and I loved it. I’m really curious to see how this story unfolds with Jon around and what the future will look like once the bad guys are defeated.

Oh, and I loved the weird dino plotline that happened with Jon realizing it was him all those years ago who brokered peace. Time travel is crazy kid.
