LUCIFER: My Brother’s Keeper

One thing I love about watching Lucifer is the predictable insanity with every episode.

Lucifer takes his personal life and uses a case to interpret it with silly results. It never ends the way he thinks or how he wants. As an audience member watching the show from the start I knew Ella’s brother wasn’t the killer.

Something crazy happens to the poor doctor. Like having to treat the woman who kind of put her in the hospital, but it wasn’t actually her.

Amenadiel gets beaten up, holds tightly to his faith, or beats someone else up. He also holds onto the everything happens for a reason even if it makes no sense or seemingly has no purpose.

Maze keeps having these pesky feelings. She cares about someone but she’ll deny it or threaten to kill someone for it.

Dan is clueless about everything. All the time.

And Chloe. Well, poor Chloe is often left trying to navigate her way through the craziness, trying to find the right killer, keep people from becoming their own problems, rein Lucifer in, and maintain her own sanity.

No matter how much of it is expected in the episode they’re always fun to watch because I never know when one character might have a surprising twist. Lucifer has an overall formula for it’s show that works, see above. But it has tiny character twists that make it ever changing and growing. Like Lucifer’s moment at the end when he confronted Ella’s brother.

He has come to care for Ella and in his own strange way he showed it by not letting reality break into her life. She wants to believe her brother is a good guy who got caught up in something bad, once. Lucifer doesn’t want to see the harsh reality catch up to Ella so he does something about it.

Lucifer very rarely makes his feelings for people known outside of necessity, but its little moments like that which make you love him.

He was also right about Chloe. Anyone else had this case they would have slapped the cuffs on Ella’s brother without a second thought. Ella may have been too close to the case but Chloe still followed her findings because they were logical. Logical Chloe can work with, something she can prove beyond ‘he’s my brother and I trust him.’

It’s very fitting of her character. I love her always wanting to see justice done she’s willing to look from every angle because the last thing she wants is to put away an innocent man.

Amenadiel and Lucifer’s relationship to one another is always strained and peculiar. I don’t know why Lucifer thought his brother would go against their father to help him. He’s started believing in his faith again this season, I doubt he’s going to throw that away because Lucifer asked nicely.

I just want to take a moment to express how utterly crazy Cain is.

He pulled a gun in the middle of club. Put it on the bar. Then fired it. He went toe to toe with a former angel no matter how badly he was beaten up. He’s crazy.

Then again living forever and watching your loved ones die over and over probably hasn’t helped his mental facilities.

What is Cain hoping to accomplish by dying too? Won’t he be headed for hell? Won’t he end up living the same cycle of torment anyway?

If he has truly tried everything. Has he tried atoning for his sin?

Not to presume for the Big Guy upstairs or anything but punishment usually has a lesson attached to it. Lucifer mentioned all the doors in hell are unlocked and only they can leave once they stop blaming themselves but no one ever has. Is it possible the only one who can unlock this door is himself?

Maybe he needs to regret what he did to his brother or something along those lines before he can finally move on.

Or maybe he’s stuck to wander the Earth forever. I don’t know. I’m not God.

Other important questions: When will Maze come clean about seeing the doctor with Amenadiel? Is there an endgame there? Or will we watch Maze just get more and more angry? Will the doctor be able to help Charlotte finally move on? Did anyone else get a kick out of her pricking her with a tack?

Are Chloe and Lucifer no longer a thing?

Something they mentioned last night about Chloe wishing she had a brother. The way Lucifer said her brother would be very proud made me think Lucifer was saying it for himself. I don’t care either way. I’ll still watch the show. But the longer they go without making it romantic has me somewhat wishing it stays that way.

I hope she does eventually know he really is the Devil. But I hope they stay friends because it just never happens. A female and male lead who don’t end up together or don’t try just once to make it romantic. I think it would be cool for them to have a brother sister dynamic.

It would set the show apart.

So, those are my thoughts on last night’s Lucifer. No more for three weeks. Not as bad as nine but still, my Mondays are about to get boring. Let me know what you think! And if anyone can think of a show with a male and female lead friend duo who were never romantically involved let me know that too!
