I’m sorry, that was Lex?

I did not put that together until Jon said that Lex had sent him to the past to save Superman. Jeez. How bad was the future that Lex was like, yep, should have kept Supes around.

Damn.

That’s not good.

Meanwhile, Jon said he would have thought he had more time to stop Henshaw. He was just so happy to get to meet his parents and be part of their happiness for a bit that he wasted a bit of time.

Which – you know – I can’t really blame him.

Imagine, never growing up with these people. They’re dead in the world you come from. Where only your Aunt Kara was there to take care of you while the world basically burned to the ground. Life was a constant battle while Kara did her best to impart some joy into Jon’s life.

Only for her to die as well.

Poor Jon.

He’s lost everyone and he’s trying so hard to get it all back.

Apparently, that doesn’t seem to work either based on the end of the episode when the future arguably looks worse. With Jon being kidnapped by Luthor.

I guess fixing one problem doesn’t fix everything.

Which is a valid take on time travel that I’m kind of enjoying. I mean, yes, it completely sucks because life is clearly different and still not great for Jon – who is now Jon Lane. Suggesting that one of his parents might have survived into the apocalyptic future. Or maybe Sam Lane survived and took the kid in.

Might explain why Jon looks far less like the happy go lucky kid we met.

Which does make sense that he was raised by Kara who likes to find joy in the smallest of things.

Especially her lesson about bugs to him. Feels like the lessons given to the Bizarro(?) guy we saw earlier in the season. The one who we have heard very little about. I wonder when he’ll make a reappearance.

Given that Clark is now without his powers.

I loved the little detail that he needed his glasses to see the truck. I loved that Lois borrowed the truck and Jonathan let her, even knowing it may never come back. Or at least, it’s coming back damaged. With Lois, I mean anything is possible.

See Superman and Lois where her cars were destroyed multiple times. Multiple. Like she wasn’t even surprised to come out and find it on fire anymore.

Meanwhile, Clark can’t walk or see straight and has lost his powers.

Which is an interesting take on the Death of Superman storyline. Because – I mean – technically Superman is dead. Leaving behind only Clark Kent.

Who sounds so dejected that he can’t be Superman for Lois anymore. Never mind the world.

Dude, I think right now she’s just happy to have you alive and in one piece. Mostly.

We can figure the rest out later. Also, she wasn’t in love with you because you’re Superman. She loves the nerdy and goofy Clark Kent. The one who works with her. Who loves her. Who is a little dorky. Likes to build mini farms. Hang out with Jimmy. Take her on dates and always sees the best the world has to offer. Even at it’s bleakest.

Like this fight for example. He never gave up on the idea that Hank could do the right thing.

And in the end, Clark was right.

Henshaw stopped what he was doing. Seeing himself for the villain he was.

I do wish that they played into Jon not being as susceptible to Kryptonite a bit more during the fight and not at the last moment. Because it did appear to have an effect on him until the end. Making it somewhat confusing to me. Like I needed to replay it.

Especially since he was using armor to protect himself from it at one point. Indicating that it is somewhat of weakness for him.

However, it does lead into a great moment where Henshaw realizes that Jon is half human. He’s not fully alien to the world. He’s trying to save his own world. Not take it over. Not rule it. Just save it from a monster.

Thus, allowing some self-reflection for Henshaw.

Who – hopefully – we have seen the last of.

However, that begs the question with some many episodes left in the season – what in the world is going to happen now?

I mean, clearly the future is still messed up. Also, on that note, doesn’t it mean because Clark was supposed to die in this battle that Lois is already pregnant with Jon? Or am I completely missing something that said Clark would have time to stop fighting Henshaw before he died and create Jon with Lois?

Like what am I missing here?

It felt like he was really early in their lives together. But also, it appears by all rights he should exist to some degree right now. Especially, if that picture was anything to go by.

I don’t know!

Time travel is confusing enough! Never mind adding in the idea that Jon should be at least in Lois’ belly right now if I’m understanding all this correctly. But maybe I’m wrong.

Someone please tell me how they believe the timeline works. Please and thank you.

Other things I enjoyed from this episode – Jon wanting so badly to keep his family safe from all the bad things. To fight this alone so they could be safe. But ultimately accepting that they are all stronger together.

I loved that.

I loved that Lois completely disregarded Jon’s worries because she wasn’t about to sit on the sidelines if she could help.

I love that Lois was proud of him and told him so. Even though the future and the fact that she has a child freaks her out, she has come to care for Jon, and is proud of the man he is. Unfortunately, Jon was not right about the future and I think Lois is going to freak out when she realizes things might actually be worse.

Maybe we’ll get to see her punch Lex again.

That would be nice.

I loved that Kara confronted Jon about why he was being so distant and dismissive of her. Asking what she could have possibly down to deserve this. And I love that Jon breaks down on her.

She raised him.

Loved him.

And he can’t lose her again.

Also, he was just really excited to get to know his parents. He knows Kara.

Until recently, they were all they had.

He didn’t know Lois and Clark. So wanting to spend time with them while ignoring the person he does know seems pretty accurate. Plus, Jon is completely traumatized by having lost her and is afraid to get close again.

Something similar to this happens in Charmed (SPOILERS) when Chris comes back from the future. When it’s all finally revealed that he’s Piper and Leo’s son, he’ll barely look Piper in the eyes. Avoiding her and being dismissive. It’s revealed that she died in his childhood and he’s terrified to return to a world where he doesn’t have her. To get close and get to know her, only to lose her all over again. Piper rights this in the show by reminding him that if he succeeds in his plan, the future will change, and he might still get to have her. But right now, he does. For sure. He could get to know her. Have a mom. Right now. Make memories that might help deal with living without her later.

I really loved that take on time travel.

Because the future children are dealing with hurts you don’t understand or know anything about because you’re not there. You haven’t lived it.

So you’re navigating minefields you didn’t even know were possible.

I love that Kara convinces him to fight with her right now. Split the armor and get to work on destroying Henshaw.

Unfortunately, that only worked for like five seconds.

Thank goodness for Superman for going the extra mile. Except for the unfortunate loss of powers. At least the world still has Supergirl. Not sure how this is going to get fixed, but I guess we’ll see.

Oh, and I hate Lex Luthor.

I think everyone here hates Luthor. Even Luthor.
