Alls well, that ends well.
Everyone rode off into the sunset together. Except the uncle and the abusive assistant. The uncle is the one who died and I feel like I should be more moved by it than I was.
Very happy Arisa is alive and well to be with her wife. Always a good time.
The ‘bad guy’ got what was coming to him. Except he’s not really the ‘bad guy.’ No one really is in this series.
Everyone is pretty human.
I mean, except Arisa’s father. There’s really no excuse for his evilness of beating his wife and trying to kill her and poisoning his daughter to target the wrong person over it.
In the uncle’s case, his misguided choices were done out of loyalty. How many people have done dumb shit out of loyalty to someone? I think we can all relate to that. Maybe not on the same level of raising a child to hate someone who didn’t do anything wrong, but the point is still valid.
It’s a human emotion to be loyal to the people you can about.
Something intensified with death. Making everything seem larger than life, including loyalties.
With Arisa and Lalin’s moms, they were both married out of a sense of duty to their families or what have you. They did not marry for love and ended up falling in love with each other. After having been really good friends. That’s such a human response to have.
Every character is flawed and imperfect. They’re not inherently good or bad. Just people making choices with the information they have and doing the best they can. Sometimes, realizing later that they have made the wrong choices along they way.
Arisa apologizes for her behavior to Wei Ling and is forgiven though it is clear they still have a long way to go, they can start anew on the same page now. Also, they’re sort of stuck with each other regardless of how they feel since they’re in love with their respective family members.
I did love the actors choice to not look at Arisa when saying she wanted to spend time with the people she cares about. They have most certainly not reached that point yet together and that’s okay. We don’t need to rush there or ever get there.
There’s a lot of hurt between them after everything. I don’t think they’ll ever be best friends. Maybe cordial and even somewhat enjoy each other’s company. But we’re still a long way from that and I’m happy they didn’t brush everything that happened between them under the rug.
Like oh because we know the reasons now, everything is cool.
Which did occur more with Lalin and Arisa and even between Wei Ling and Arisa’s mother.
However, romance tends to allow for things to be swept along more easily. Also, Arisa wasn’t outright being horrible or cruel to Lalin. She did use her, yes. But she does love her as well and promising to do better, moving forward in their relationship is somewhat separate to the hurt that Wei Ling had at the hands of Arisa who never liked the other woman.
It’s a different relationship going on there. So it makes sense that Lalin might sweep away the pain more easily to have her wife back.
Which she seems pretty pleased with.
Everywhere.
Including the car.
Again, the Thai GL love scenes are just not my thing. It felt weird to me, and I was wondering how on Earth – you know what – never mind. Not important.
Feel free to send me a message if you want to know what I was going to say. Otherwise, moving on!
The scene with them driving the car around was adorable. I loved that Arisa returned the ring and made a new promise with it this time, since the last one was a bit tainted. I also loved Arisa joking with her about not picking it up if she takes it off and throws it at her again.
No promises from Lalin on that front either.
Lalin and Arisa have come a long way as a couple. However, I do think that Lalin’s growth individually was pretty minimal all things considered.
Arisa learned to have an actual life and fall in love, let go of the anger she’s carried for so long. Wei Ling slowed down and realized there are more important things than her company. Arisa’s mother returned to her daughter and faced the past she left behind. The uncle died doing the right thing for someone he cared about.
People grew and changed.
Lalin is pretty much the same.
Maybe a bit more grown-up and responsible than before since she took over her mother’s company and found her confidence there with help from Arisa. However, I think she was fully capable of doing that before Arisa ever appeared in her life. She would have been fine if the person guiding her was her mother.
I do like that she ended up with control of the company while her mother indulges in time for herself and her loved one.
While Arisa steps back into her own interests again.
However, it does strike me as odd that we meet Lalin wondering if she should follow her passions, something encouraged by Arisa. It’s literally how they met. But Lalin ends up not following her passion and instead following her mother’s footsteps. Which is fine, but it didn’t seem like the thing she wanted until her mother called her home.
Did she want to take over the company before? We’ve only seen glimpses of her working there and it’s mostly been her complaining about not understanding all the numbers and such. That she needs to learn if she wants to lead. Which is great way to lead, but it didn’t appear to be something she wanted.
Why is that how her story ends? Wouldn’t her return to her passion make more sense?
I don’t know. It felt incomplete and doesn’t really make a lot of sense. However, Lalin was more of a tool for Arisa and Wei Ling to battle against each other than a complete character. I mean, they made a good effort. But with a few more tweaks, I think Lalin could have been an even greater character with a bit more growth of her own that relied less on other people deciding her fate.
Those are just my thoughts. What about you guys? Do you think Lalin had as much growth as the other characters?
Wei Ling and Arisa’s mother whose name I keep forgetting getting to have their happily ever after together was very sweet. As was the hospital scene as everyone reunites.
Or even the one when Arisa realizes what the hell has happened. Which for the first time does give Arisa and Wei Ling a decent common ground – they would each do anything to protect Lalin. Anything.
Got to love the dedication of Arisa’s assistant as well to knowingly put herself in danger to help Arisa get her wife back.
Also, Wei Ling’s former number two is freaking nuts. Why he thought that would work is beyond me.
The montage was a little weird, but I did love that it indicated them coming together as a family. Creating something new from the ashes of everything that happened. Turning it into something positive and wonderful.
I’m surprised they wouldn’t spend a bit more time with their daughters before journeying around the world, but to be fair we really have no idea how much time was supposed to have passed. It could have been a while before they left together. Or they could have their place down the street. I don’t know.
I am – however – glad the elder gays were able to live happily ever after together.
As well as Arisa and Lalin. Because for all the faults of the drama of Thai GLs, this was a really good one. I enjoyed the storyline. The resolution was pretty damn satisfying considering everything they had to wrap up. Like I did not see Wei Ling’s number two being the one to kidnap Lalin, but it also makes complete sense and wraps that up nicely.
Arisa and Lalin are pretty adorable together. Faye continues to be the gift of Thai GLs, and I look forward to whatever she creates next. I will for certain be there for it. I hope she keeps the other actress as well.
That is most certainly something I love about the Thai GLs, they find good chemistry and they just keep pairing them up together over and over with different stories. Yes, please. That is exactly what I wanted for the actresses playing Maya Bishop and Carina DeLuca – Danielle Savre and Stefania Spampinato. They had amazing chemistry and they themselves said they would love it to be more like old time Hollywood.
You find chemistry and you keep it together. I really love that.
So Faye, you found some chemistry, please keep it together! Thank you!
Overall, I enjoyed this series more than I thought I would! I recommend it, if you like GL stories and web series.
