Amy and Kirsten are coming back to our screens, sometime this year.
Which I found through Google and some very vague answers. Only the idea that it will probably premire on BBC One sometime this year. So yay for that!
Above is the sneak peek of the two of them in the frozen north together.
It looks pretty good from the 30 seconds we get here. However, I am super weirded out by the fact that they’re both carrying guns because they have frequently not carried firearms throughout the first two seasons.
Like – I remember often being terrified for them just shouting things like ‘police, stop’ to a dude with a gun and expecting that to work. Especially when Kirsten was pregnant during last season.
Speaking of which – I’m super excited to see their expanding family and I sincerely hope we get to see Poppy and the new little one somewhere in this season. Otherwise, I’m going to be oh so sad.
However, I am thrilled these two appear to be spending the entire season together trapped in the frozen tundra. Which will be super exciting since we typically have only gotten snippets of them together during the first two seasons. Season one mostly being flashbacks as well.
Now, this couple makes it onto the 2026 list of couples for me because of my renewed interest, not just because the series is returning sometime this year – but because I recently got my girlfriend hooked on it. She was attempting to get me hooked on another show which is sort of making fun of the seriousness of shows like this. Perhaps you’ve heard of it – Deadloch.
Which – that show was just too much for me and I wanted to smack most of the characters most of the time.
However, while discussing the show and our preferences for what we watch, I mentioned Vigil. Which the series is just absolutely perfect for her with its vibe and gay longing. After telling her about it, she binged it in like two days. Some of which, she should have been sleeping so she could be a functioning human at work.
Regardless, I remembered my absolute love for this couple, and I wanted to share it with all of you!
I really love how messy they are.
Amy’s reasons for being totally closed off and freaked out to love again are beyond valid. All of which are perfectly challenged in the first season as she attempts to figure out what in the world happened on the sub.
I love the story told through flashbacks of easily they fell into each other and how much that scared the crap out of Amy.
And how Kirsten did want to be there for her. Did understand her hesitation. Was being completely understanding about the entire thing only for Amy to freak out anyway and blow it all up.
I love that Kirsten takes it upon herself to be there for Poppy’s birthday when Amy cannot make it because the investigation took a turn she was not expecting. Allowing her a rare glimpse into another reason why Amy is just so terrified to make things work. Fearing that everyone around her will end up dead.
I love how much that allows Kirsten to open up again.
The second season leans into the idea that these two have figured their shit out. They’re in a committed relationship, parenting Poppy together, and about to have another baby.
They are still them.
Amy worries for Kirsten’s safety.
Kirsten is annoyed and endeared by this.
Kirsten continues to pull Amy out the armor she placed around herself. Allowing her to love and laugh and enjoy life again.
One of the things I loved most about this season was that Poppy was living with them full time. She was clearly very loved and happy to be with them. To have a sibling on the way. And had a love for Kirsten who she did not know at all in the first season until a date on a calendar brought them together.
She clearly respected and loved Kirsten and vice versa. Caring for her while Amy was gone as though she were her own.
Trying not to freak the child out even though she herself was freaking out.
I really loved the family vibes of season two. Because it showed how much they meant everything they said at the end of season one. They gave things a real shot and are working it out.
Maybe it’s not perfect.
Maybe Amy is too overprotective. Maybe Kirsten is a bit reckless.
But they love each other and their expanding family. They tease each other. Share the little moments. Love their daughter. Their home is filled with love where there was once just loss and loneliness. It was so much fun to see the growth and I cannot wait to see more in the third season!
What about you guys? Are you excited?
