Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?
My blankie.
A quilt baby blanket that is blue with a precious moments patch as the center piece. It was crafted by my great grandmother while my mom was pregnant.
It’s blue because everyone hoped I was going to be a boy.
It spent every night with me as a child, except for rare occasions. Went on all the trips. And my though my great grandmother passed when I was 2, my mom extended the blanket growing it with me.
Lastly, in early 2025 my house caught fire and I believed I may have to live without my comfort blanket. That has been on every bed for my whole life. Digging through the rumble it was the first item I searched for. I found it.
Under rubble and mess. Covered in grime, soot, and dirt. Sopping wet, but somehow still intact and uncharred. I cleaned it up lovingly and it still holds a special place on my bed.
Although, I am incredibly more delicate with it now. However, it is still with me. And I think my great grandmother may have protected it for me in one of my darkest hours.
By whatever stroke of luck that it survived, I an grateful beyond words.
