Recently, DC comics announced a new line of comics coming March 2026 and after!
The list is pictured above courtesy of kitkat5628 of Tumblr! While each of these titles is exciting in their own way, the first one I want to talk about is Batwoman!
I’ve been a fan of Batwoman since she appeared in the Arrowverse crossover played by Ruby Rose. Which while that did not turn out anything like I expected it would given… everything that happened with the show. It did turn me onto her comic book series.
I spent a good chunk of my time collecting all of the issues involving Batwoman’s original run and becoming an expert on the character.
However, the series ended sort of abruptly and a few things were never properly resolved due to creative differences behind the scenes. Particularly with Greg Rucka. You see, he wanted Kate Kane to marry her long-time love interest and fiancée in the comics, Maggie Sawyer. Unfortunately, DC implemented a rule that the Bat-Family weren’t allowed to be – you know – happy. Thus, they were not allowed to wed.
In fact, if I remember correctly without looking it up at the moment, Kate and Maggie ended up breaking up because her ex sued for sole custody of his and Maggie’s daughter citing her unfit relationship with Kate Kane. Which – of course – is super terrible looking for the LGBTQ+ community.
It was a slap in the face to the wonderfully diverse character they had created with Kate Kane, a Jewish lesbian badass.
Greg Rucka was never allowed to finish the series the way he intended or progress the characters as he desired.
However, he is returning to pen Batwoman once more and I’m beyond excited by this news. Greg Rucka not only penned Batwoman originally, but most people are probably familiar with The Old Guard from Netflix. Which is a comic series Rucka also penned.
He is an amazing storyteller, and I cannot wait to see what he has in store for one of my favorite comic heroes who deserves to have her day in the sun. Or time in the shadows as the case may be with a member of the Bat-Family.
The series according to several articles will be set in Greece which is just so much fun for me, a nerd who loves Greek Mythos so much. Like Xena or Percy Jackson or even just the myths alone. This fills me with so much excitement that I cannot wait for March to roll around. I will be at my local comic bookstore first thing that morning to pick up a copy or two. Maybe I’ll have one framed for my office.
That was a plan with some of my favorite comic titles before my house fire. Alas, I’ll start again.
Now as for the other titles dropping sometime next year, Barbara Gordon is getting her own series, which like is mind blowing to me.
I think the crazy thing for me is that I’ve been a fan of comics and superheroes for a long time and I’m used to getting drips and drabs of female characters. They’re always in the main male comics and it’s not terrible. It’s not like they have had terrible writing all the time or that it was inherently bad. Maybe some were, some weren’t, it’s not the point I’m trying to make!
I’m trying to say that I’m not used to them getting to be featured front and center.
We have a Batwoman, a Barbara Gordon series, and a Zatanna series all dropping next year. Three leading ladies in their own comics is amazing to me and I can’t wait to see it unfold.
While Barbara Gordon isn’t always my taste, which is nothing to do with her, and everything to do with Batman. I like Batman, but he’s just not my favorite.
Like Batwoman is the only bat I’ve ever gotten really into where I know the whole history, and I actively seek her out. Otherwise, I’m like, cool Bat-Family. Nice.
Bat-Family stuff doesn’t always do it for me. Again, nothing against the characters. It’s just not always for me.
However, I will absolutely be checking out Barbara Gordon’s series to see if this one vibes with me, because you never know what might hit. I didn’t think I’d like Batwoman and here we are.
Zatanna I’ve loved since Smallville and then again on Young Justice, so this is a no brainer to me. I can’t wait to see her story unfold.
Also, I love that this comic era is hitting.
Like we have the adult Spider-Man with a family we’ve never had before. We’ve got leading ladies in comic book series, and not just the recognizable ones, we’re digging deep here. I love this.
Lobo and Deathstroke are interesting choices that I don’t know what to make of at all.
Lobo is intergalactic bounty hunter.
Deathstroke, well he’s Deathstroke. A violent mercenary.
Those will be interesting to see.
Then we have Firestorm who I’m not sure has ever had a comic book line of their own before. I could be wrong, drop a comment, and let me know please.
Firestorm I originally saw in Flash so I’m excited to see this comic book series as well. Which apparently means I’ll just be handing several paychecks over to DC Comics next year. Oh well.
I wonder who the halves of Firestorm will be. Does anyone have any thoughts or knowledge?
Last but most certainly not least, Batman arrives with a new series.
I’ll probably take a pass on this one since I’m not the biggest Batman fan. I do wish it the best of luck, and I hope that those who love Batman so, enjoy the newest installment.
Please let me know what you’re most excited about dropping next year! Or just squeal in the comment section! I’m all for it!
Thanks for reading! Spread the love and read on!
