Xeque Mate 2×05 – Review

We got plot heavy all of a sudden.

Maybe they read an earlier review where I said this was just porn with a plot loosely tying it together to be called more than that. I don’t know.

What I do know is that nothing really happened in this episode. Again.

Maya fought with her team over money and whether or not she’s in love with Giovanna.

Giovanna woke up while kidnapped and was upset.

Christopher was useless.

We tortured a guy.

Well, I suppose nothing is a bit harsh. Because Heitor has revealed there’s something emotional tying at least two women to this vendetta against Christopher.

Both Maya and her best friend got upset listening to Heitor.

Also, why was the man not tied up? Like at all? He could just attack you. Or pull off the blindfold.

I mean, that was some poor planning there. They even say they’re going to tie him up but just don’t…

Maybe this is what I mean about the plot loosely holding this shit together. We can do incredible sex scenes, catering to a woman’s eye. Tell you a wonderful story about how these two closed off women are getting closer and closer, but the actual plot surrounding them. Eh. We do our best.

And it’s not bad. It’s enjoyable enough to watch.

I love Maya’s look of pride as Giovanna screams herself raw and beating down the door. I love that the goons are genuinely terrified of her.

I love that Maya wants her knocked out gently.

Like Christopher you may not have been shouting but I have to tell you that you got off easy because that’s just how they were knocking Giovanna out. I imagine it would have been way less nice.

Also, I apologize to the driver who was also kidnapped. I thought he hadn’t been and could have gone for help.

Instead, he’s caught up in this drama and is being attacked by Christopher..? What was with the water bottle dude?

He brought you a drink and you pour it on his feet after asking if he wanted some. Because he stopped the car? Where was he going to go? Smash into it? He’s a driver? Like he’s not paid to do that.

Giovanna had a point, why didn’t he have his bodyguards with him?

She was alone against four men with guys and three people who couldn’t protect themselves. It was unfair to ask her to defend against that. If she had only rescued Maya, it would have been understandable given that’s who she is supposed to protect.

Christopher shouldn’t dismiss his bodyguards so easily.

Not to mention he’s just a horrible person for not once appearing to care that his wife wasn’t in the room with them. Or dropped on the side of the road.

He worries for about a minute, and Giovanna is nice to him, helping him up, and trying to work with him. Only for him to turn into a raging ass again as soon as he can, blaming Giovanna for being outnumbered and outgunned. He’s annoyed that she hasn’t solved the problem and he’s being robbed.

Not that his wife is missing or in danger.

Nope. Not that.

Jeez. I mean, if I didn’t already know that she hates him, I’d feel bad for her. I’d understand Giovanna’s appeal to her even more.

It also appears that Christopher found his brain somewhere and realized that Giovanna was probably a little over worried for someone just protecting his wife. She was screaming and kicking at the door. Fighting back every chance she could. And as Maya pointed out, she got the police moving before anyone else could.

Christopher wondered why she cared so much.

Well, guess what moron? She loves your wife more than you do.

Maya also loves her more than you. Which I suppose isn’t hard, but she was very careful with Giovanna or as careful as she could be during the circumstances, unlike you. Who I believe, she wishes she could have shot then and there.

On the flip side, Giovanna’s friend was still freaking out and I don’t know how the police could think it was normal for like four people to disappear and not look for them. I guess that’s just me.

The mole returns to the police station and sees the Clarise (I think) and knows something. I don’t know. I don’t really understand the context of the scene, but I did understand that the police chief is in Christopher’s pocket. He’s being paid off.

She knows because she scheduled the payments, and she wants to share the information with Giovanna. Which would be awesome, because then we could get rid of a bunch of corruption here.

Maya sets a kidnap ransom for a lot of money.

They need to pay some goons, get back the money they lost, and still walk away with a tidy sum.

This show is weird, alright.

I’m oddly invested in how strange it is, actually.

I’m also super curious to see how this all shakes out. Maya knows Giovanna is smart. How long before she figures out the truth?

How long can she keep this up? What’s the endgame? Is she going to kill Christopher? Wouldn’t Giovanna have to arrest her? Who is this guy they were talking about?

Will these two ever admit they’re in love with each other? Are they doomed? Or are they doomed to be together?

Guess we’ll have to wait to find out as season two is coming to a close. Episode six is the final episode for now. It appears that it may be part one of season two and they need to raise more money to complete the series. It’s impressive that they’ve managed to do this. It has a lot of locations and moving parts, it’s not easy.

Unlike Stupid Wife which mostly took place in one house and that house stood in for many different locations as well. It had to have been easier to budget.

Either way, I hope they manage to raise the funds because I am entirely too curious for this to stop now.

What do you guys think? Drop me a comment and let me know!
