We open up to a murder board…?
At first, I thought someone died or something with that set up.
But then we return to the status quo.
Sort of.
Giovanna gives her people a break. So I guess they do get to have lives to themselves. I was wondering about that last week.
Christopher is certain he solved Hector as a problem by giving him the money he wanted, while talking on the phone to someone. A seemingly unknown someone.
I’m starting to think everyone in this show has secrets.
Good or bad? I have no idea. But everyone is hiding something.
Then Giovanna heads to Maya’s which is where I thought she would firmly shut this relationship down forcing Maya to flirt her way back into her good graces. But… uh… that doesn’t happen.
Nope. Not even a little.
The way Giovanna dressed and went over there was like she was dressed and ready to kill. In fact, everything about her during that scene and all of her scenes with Maya screamed like a woman who came to play.
And the end of the episode agrees with that.
As Giovanna is carefully placing all the pieces on the murder board, it appears she’s figured out that there’s more than meets the eye with Maya.
I said in a couple reviews ago, that it felt like Maya was playing chess while Giovanna was playing checkers. Except in tonight’s episode.
In this episode, she came ready to play.
She pulled out all the stops.
She looked amazing. She flirted as good as she got and was literally on top of things as the night wore on. Her flirting was subtle as she got closer.
And Larissa’s voiceover at the end was interesting.
Because it notes that Giovanna doesn’t get emotionally involved in things, while Larissa insists that Maya will be different.
And I think Giovanna knows that’s a problem. Especially, given the recent light she’s shined on the situation. It appears that the detective has discovered that Christopher might be the victim or maybe not.
She puts a question mark on his little note.
But not one on, ‘Queen of the Empire.’
Apparently, Giovanna has successfully ascertained what I thought, Maya is running everything behind the scenes.
I think she’s behind stealing the money.
I think she’s pulling Christopher’s strings.
I think she’s pulling all their strings and Giovanna is the only one to really notice how much. As Larissa has noticed to some extent.
She understands that Maya has a particular skill to be the right person to anyone she wants.
However, I’m not sure how much of that skill she’s using on Giovanna. I think despite Giovanna not being part of her intial plan, she’s opened the door to let her in. Not only to keep and eye on her, but because she likes her.
And I think part of her is a little worried that out of everyone, she’ll see the truth. So she focuses on seducing her. Maybe to distract or get her on her side or even find out if she’s corruptable.
It’ll be interesting to see how the story unfolds next season with Giovanna playing the game a bit better now that they’re in the same game.
Because clearly, if this episode is any indication, she might be a match for Maya who was taken aback by the level of boldness she appeared at her house with.
Also, I’m curious as to what Giovanna thinks about Christopher. Like actually.
As she mentioned, “He’ll get what he deserves.” In a very unflattering tone that suggested what he deserved isn’t good.
Overall, a good chunk of this episode is taken up with them flirting openly and playing games together.
They discover they met before the threesome at a wedding, specifically VaLu’s confirming my suspicions that they were in the end of Stupid Wife for a reason. To set up the next series. Also, it makes Stupid Wife part of this world.
Which actually makes this world more jarring than before.
As it is set in the same world as VaLu’s story, but these two characters are wildly more jaded and darker than Valentina or Luiza. Even though, they all know each other.
I mean, we met Maya who appeared in Valentina’s studio. She made no mention of her husband, nor did she joyously share the news of him like Valentina gushed and showed pictures of her own family. Though Maya was clearly happy for her and understands love exists, she did not appear to marry for love.
She even helped out with the surprise Valentina created at the end of the series with all the photos.
Then there’s Giovanna who was a friend of Luiza’s in college. Both nerds.
Giovanna firmly rooted for the two of them to get together and knew they were meant to be, but does not believe in it happening for her. She’s a jaded cop.
Maya is in a loveless marriage.
The comparison between the two series is so stark and different.
One couple is lovey dovey, happily married with two children, and more in love than ever.
The other couple is hiding a secret fling while one is investigating her husband while sleeping with his wife and the wife steals from the husband. Which means, Giovanna is essentially looking to arrest Maya.
Wow.
Those are very different shows set in the same world.
With characters who are friends with the other couple.
That is way less of a meet cute story compared to VaLu.
Damn.
All in all, season one has concluded and there’s still more mystery to uncover. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
