Ouch.
That opening hurt.
I mean, I don’t blame Giovanna for being upset that they still don’t know who is doing this. But also, she was in bed when it happened. Is Larissa supposed to be at work monitoring everything 24/7?
But it’s okay that Giovanna rests? Or has sex? Or a life?
I don’t know. I think that was a little harsh on her friend.
They’re all doing their best.
Then I get a bit of whiplash as Maya tells her friend about the wonderful night she spent with Giovanna. Blatantly. In the middle of the home, she shares with Christopher without a care in the world.
Though her friend has the sense to remind her that they are not alone as Eliza the maid, appears.
Oops.
And Maya’s friend isn’t sure what side the maid will be on. Though Maya doesn’t appear distressed.
Damn.
Maya seems to have everything in hand. Not worried about a thing. Not worried her husband will catch her with someone else. Or that she can just talk about it out in the open with other people around and is still somehow certain this won’t get back to Christopher.
Maybe she’s got something on the maid?
Maybe she’s too confident and it’ll all come back to bite her?
I think the second one is likely.
Maybe the first too is why she is so confident but maybe the maid will get rid of the evidence or tell Christopher anyway.
Though that opens up the idea that Christopher will have to choose between them on who to trust. My feeling is he’ll probably choose his wife.
Not because he’s a smart man and believes her.
Not even because love is blind or anything.
But because Christopher appears to be the type of man who loves to possess things other people wish to have. His company, Hector wants, he loves that. His wife, everyone else might want, but only he has her. Only he may touch.
At least, that’s what he believes.
Essentially, he’s not thinking with his upstairs brain. If you know, you know.
Moving on!
Giovanna is frustrated that she’s been letting Maya get to her.
Which, um, thank you. I’ve been saying this for several episodes now, just waiting politely and impatiently for you to catch up.
Alas, this seems to go absolutely nowhere as the police suddenly find a lead.
They race off to find… no one.
But a laptop.
Except it needs to be cracked open.
Back to the lust-filled pining then!
Oh no, wait, we’re still in the middle of the plot.
Christopher receives news. He’s been robbed again. And everything about his interaction with Maya leads me to believe that what I said before is true. It’s not love so much as possession or obsession.
Otherwise, how can you talk to someone you love like that?
I do find it interesting that he takes Maya with him to the police station to yell at everyone, specifically Giovanna for losing his money.
Like why was she there?
She’s not part of your company.
Was she there for moral support?
Is she really supporting you? Or is she supporting Giovanna?
Because at least once during the conversation, she attempted to dissuade Christopher of the notion that it was all Giovanna’s fault. That somehow she wasn’t doing enough. As Maya pointed out, there’s only so much she can do.
Christopher yelled at everyone.
Boss tried to defend Giovanna.
Alas, nothing truly seemed resolved.
However, when Giovanna asked to meet with Maya later, they were both serious in a totally unexpected way.
Maya’s snarky and flirty veneer vanished in the wake of such a genuine ask.
All of their snark, flirting, teasing, and formerly adversarial type relationship disappeared and for the first time, I realized something.
Something hinted at as Maya spoke to her friend at the beginning of the episode – they actually care about each other.
They’re soft in that moment like they are with no one else.
Soft, serious, and caring.
Maya almost appeared comforting to Giovanna who just got torn a new one for no reason.
It was an incredibly genuine and endearing moment.
Which sucks, because I think the reason Giovanna is asking to meet privately with is to ask for space or ‘break up’ to focus on solving the case.
And her career. Which is very important to her.
Last, but most certainly not least, Christopher meets with Hector. Bringing him… money? I think. It wasn’t totally clear.
It appears that Christopher is trying to buy Hector off, thinking he’s the problem.
But… Hector thinks that Christopher is stealing money from himself.
Something that seemed absurd to me.
Like I can see how Hector might arrive at this conclusion. As it would be really smart to do. Send the police on a wild goose chase while you flip out on them for not finding the culprit while you stash the money away.
Potentially getting reimbursed for the stolen money or avoiding taxes on it. I’m not sure what the motive would be in Brazil or how their laws work, but this would work in the USA. So, I can see the thought process.
Except here’s the thing – for all his bolstering, Christopher appears to be an idiot.
For anyone who says, I was born to make a lot of money or be a rich man or I worked so hard to be the richest asshole, they weren’t. There’s a good chance they stepped on a lot of people to get there. Does that go for all rich people?
No. Certainly not.
In TV shows like this?
Probably the bad guy.
Just saying.
Also, I’m going to say this. This man can’t even notice that directly behind him, his wife is touching another woman. He’s not a smart man.
He probably swindled someone out of money like Hector.
There’s no way he made his money cleanly nor through his complete lack of brains.
Nope. No chance.
Well, let’s see how this unfolds in the final episode of season one!
