How does this exist?
I heard this play for the first time by f*cking accident.
So, if you care about backstory, read some of this! This is all my girlfriend’s fault. Let me be clear. She mentioned that she loves D&D, she’s a DM, she found Critical Role during the pandemic and lockdown. I was not totally unfamiliar with this series as it possesses a gay couple. Two. I have a Tumblr. Gay shit crosses my dash all the time.
I knew of it. But knowing what it was, I never watched it. I was like, I’m going to be interested and do I really have the time to be interested in something like this. But then, you get all mushy over someone, and reason goes out the window.

I thought, okay, alright I’ll check it out, maybe I won’t get attached.
Yeah sure.
That and other lies I tell myself.
Currently, I’m 30 some odd episodes in with no signs of stopping now!

Screw all the animation, whether it was written for the Mighty Nein or Vox Machina I don’t care, this thing is a masterpiece!

As I listened to the song a second and third time, I recognized the women’s voices. I knew it was Ashley Johnson, but I couldn’t tell if it was Laura or Marisha as the other vocalist. So I looked it up.
Only to discover, Sam wrote it. Travis was the reason why. And they needed the women to help them out with the singing to really bring it home. Seriously, watch how this song was born. It’s utterly mind-blowing.
I love when people just shake out absolute and utter fantastic creation because this song really hits what they portray on the show.
I love the lyric ‘with the DM to guide you.’ Because it never feels like it’s Matt vs the rest.
Matt is telling the story and they’re choosing the adventure. He plays all the parts they can’t, but he’s never actively seeking for them to have a hard or bad time. He presents obstacles and challenges but he’s not the bad guy.
I fucking love this little song.
But then they add in the animation.
The beginning with the eye and Fjord falling in the water. Yasha amongst all the what have you.
But my ultimate favorite was Matt holding the book and all the characters, settings, monsters, and so on flashing by in a perfect representation of his role in the show.
So good.
