Apparently, at Ponto Acao, they strive to just kill us.
I mean, damn.
Right out of the gate for their new series, they’re pulling no punches.
In the series opener, we meet Giovanna and Maya.
Giovanna goes out to blow off steam and celebrate that she’s getting a change of pace as a police officer in a city where things might actually happen. She heads out with someone she’s been sleeping with.
Although her friend warns her against it.
Because the other woman might fall in love when all Giovanna wants is sex.
Of course, while she’s out at the bar she meets Maya.
She, Maya, and the other woman spend the night together. With Maya gone before anyone wakes up the following morning, though she leaves a little note for Giovanna on the mirror.
Something that makes Giovanna smile.
And clearly while the three of them were together, it’s obvious that Giovanna and Maya were way more interested in each other than they were in the third whose name I’ve forgotten. Sorry.
Alas, the night is amazing and everyone moves on.
Giovanna and Larissa move, there’s an adorable montage of them leaving and dancing together as they enjoy the next chapter in their lives.
Larissa is smitten by someone they work with.
Giovanna is given an important investigation.
She’s brought by her boss to meet with the person running Enterprise so she can start her investigation and find out who has been stealing – I believe – from him – Chris Collins.
The entire exchange in the office is absolutely unhinged.
Maya immediately begins flirting with Giovanna who looks like she would like to jump out the window rather than be there right now. Even if her job is important to her.
Maya eyes her, flirts, touches, and even gets um, super close in the elevator with her husband. Let me say that again, her husband right there.
A man who later declares his wife is untouchable to everyone but him at dinner.
Except well, hey guess what dude, she’s been touched.
A lot.
Not even just by this woman either. There was another woman at the beginning of the episode as well!
But then she continues to flirt and touch and even reach over and touch Giovanna during dinner.
Like what the hell is happening?
Do you even like your husband?
I mean, he lit up when he saw you. But he’s a business man of a large corporation. I get the sense that he’s not exactly a wonderful person. I’m also coupling that with his clear distaste for Giovanna.
Which I suppose would make sense given how all over her his wife is, but his dislike starts before Maya arrives.
Like he wouldn’t even shake her hand.
And I love how Giovanna handles it.
She’s clearly no stranger to being looked down upon by men in power. She shakes it off with a cool look and carries on, sizing up the man in front of her as she gets ready to do her job. Her calm, cool, and collected demeanor goes right out the window the moment that Maya walks in though.
Her hands shake as she tries to take notes.
She stares at the other woman nervously.
Fidgets in her seat.
And looks like she would leap out the window if given the right opportunity.
Although, she did look pleased by the secretary. Am I the only one who noticed something between them? Like there was a look shared there, right? That wasn’t just me? Was it?
Someone tell me please!
Then the elevator scene happened.
And I wondered how daring Maya could be. Then dinner happened and I couldn’t pick my jaw up off the floor.
The sheer audacity of this woman.
She feels like she’s in control of every moment, except when we first met her. Instead, she felt like a real person having a good time with some people she met at a bar. Though clearly taken to one more than the other.
However, she takes charge of the room from the moment she walks into the office.
Her husband wrapped around her finger.
Able to charm anyone with a smile. The police. Giovanna. Her husband.
It is no matter to her. She can handle anything. She’s not even surprised of flustered to see her one night stand in her husband’s office.
It’s like nothing happened.
Except it did and she’s brazen enough to rub it in everyone’s face without anyone the wiser!
Like what is happening?
She seems calculated one moment and wild another. It’s weird and interesting and I’m curious to know what her endgame is.
Because there has to be one.
The trailers, the promos, the name, and style of the show given the hints that there is a larger game being played here. And I have a feeling that both women are at the heart of it.
Although, I feel Giovanna has stumbled into the heart of it, whereas Maya is exactly where she wants to be with all the pieces in play.
