Avalance.
If you’ve followed me for any number of years, you’d know that I am a diehard Nyssara shipper! I still am.
But I also believe things can coexist. Like my love for Nyssara and Avalance.
In recent years I have completed Legends of Tomorrow. A show I didn’t initially love, but became enraged to have cancelled after binging it through.
This show was so good.
And at its heart is an all-time favorite character of mine – Sara Lance.
I have loved Sara since the moment she stepped onto Arrow. At least as Caity Lotz. I don’t bother with the first one.
I was outraged when they killed her in season three of Arrow and even more so at the treatment of Nyssa. I stopped watching Arrow because of it. But then, they returned Sara to land of the living for Legends and I was just overjoyed to have her back on screen.
Legends at the beginning has no idea what it wants to be, but the moment it embraces being the Black Sheep of the Arrowverse and leans into the crazy. Look out. That show is by far one of the best in the Arrowverse.
Now, when Ava arrived I wasn’t thrilled. I watched from the outside, getting brief synopsis of the show so I could still see Sara’s story play out.
I honestly didn’t think Ava would last.
But she did.
And while I have my issues with the couple, Ava makes Sara happy. Which is all I really want for Sara. For her to be happy.
Also, I enjoyed Ava’s arcs as the show moved on.
We got to learn more about her interests and she was given more than a mean-girl attitude that she had in season three. With glimpses of her being a real person underneath it all.
Which she is. Cloneness aside.
I loved that she has a podcast called Stabcast and loves serial killers. Which totally works for falling in love with a former assassin. Who doesn’t love how that worked out?
I love that she makes Sara so damn happy.
She’s such a perfect foil for Sara. While I don’t think she was written as a great love interest in season three for Sara, they built on what they had so well. I loved how it evolved and grew.
I loved that Ava stood up for herself in season four when she felt that Sara didn’t have her back. That was scared she was alone in the relationship.
I enjoyed every single minute of that episode too. Lost in the Ikea like store.
From Ava worrying about growing old. From Sara getting bored. Building something real together, even if it’s not perfect.
Because they’re not.
They don’t always see eye to eye. But they love each other. They show up for each other.
Sara encourages Ava to be her best self. Goes along with her crazy fangirl moments, like when Sara pointed out that they were ‘final girls.’ Something Ava was just overjoyed to be.
Such a weirdo.
But I love that Sara allowed Ava to lean into that weirdness and discover herself.
I love that Ava loved Sara for exactly who she is. Darkness and leadership of crew filled with loony Legends and all.
Also, I cannot tell you enough how much I loved their proposal scene.
Sara was just so freaking happy.
I loved the wedding. I loved how happy Sara was. I loved that Ava felt so real to me by the time we got to season seven that I genuinely looked forward to her scenes and her moments with Sara.
I’m excited that they were planning their family.
My only wish… There were several dozen more seasons of Legends.
Including one where Ava meant Nyssa.
Can you imagine?
I mean, thanks to Jess and Katrina we did get to see how a bit of that plays out. Not to mention, Caity’s lovely suggestion of just having both. Why choose?
If you haven’t checked out Avalance, you need to! Especially the later seasons of Legends. That show just got better with age!
