Stupid Wife – 2×08 Review

I didn’t think it was possible to dislike Valentina’s mother anymore than I already did.

But I do.

How could you stand there and watch your daughter with her son, see how much they love each other, and want to tear them apart?

Is your ego more important? Like what the hell?

How could you do that?

Now, in my own personal life, I’ve seen grandparents with custody of their grandchildren. In all the times I’ve seen it, up close and personal, I believe it was in the best interest of the child.

This sure as hell is not.

The moment at the end in the dressing room cements it.

Leo had literally just called them the best mothers in the world.

A little boy, unhappy in his home doesn’t say things like that. Children tend to err on the side of honesty for crying out loud.

Valentina and Luiza just said swoon worthy, heart meltingly, wonderful things to each other.

They’ve survived this hellish year with Luiza losing her memory, right after having lost their baby. More than one, I would guess given Valentina’s issues in the Christmas episode.

They both seem to want nothing more than to be mothers. To be together. To be a family.

You want to tear that apart? Shame on you.

You have no idea what it means to be a mother or a true parent or grandmother. You are a selfish, self-centered, asshole, who wants everything her way and throws a tantrum when she doesn’t get it.

I can’t believe her husband is going along with this or will, if he doesn’t know. Which I suspect he doesn’t, because I’m willing to bet he’d pitch a fit. Maybe even realize, he’s too good for her.

Igor is going to realize how wrong he is.

Duda has been more than right this entire time.

Damn. I’m flabbergasted.

On the other hand, this episode was really good.

The final scene was heart wrenchingly done by the actresses. I cannot commend them enough. And they deserve every award and accolade because they are amazing at what they do.

I’m never not impressed with the level of care and emotion they put it. Well done to Reis and Buiar.

Aside from the heart-breaking moment at the end – side note – I’m always impressed with shows that make me laugh and cry within a half an hour. Aside from the heartbreak, there was some laughter, and happiness here too.

Luiza discovers it was her own idea, hers and Duda’s to have Igor be the donor for Leo. All because Luiza wanted a mini version of her wife. Which is impossibly sweet and kind of her.

I love this.

I know some people found it weird that Igor is the donor because it would make Leo his son and Valentina’s nephew, but it doesn’t. Anymore than adopted parents are actually parents.

Valentina is the one taking care of him. Picking him up from school, feeding him, giving him a roof over his head, and being his mom. Not Igor.

Genetics aren’t everything.

The person who raises you, is your parents. Regardless of DNA.

Simple as that for me.

And Igor doesn’t try to step in. He made his choice as well. He’d be the uncle, no more, no less. So he is. Anniha and the new baby are his. DNA or not.

I love this storyline.

Because Leo and Valentina are wildly similar.

I honestly thought she had given birth to him at first or used her egg until we got further along in the series. They have done a good job illustrating how he is similar to both parents.

I love that present Luiza enjoyed this fact too and didn’t mind Igor as the donor.

Very nice.

I loved the little flashback and how important it was to get it right.

Duda was fairly obscene with the snack she was given, which was hilarious. I loved how taken aback Igor was by her.

Then Igor and Valentina being peak siblings together was so funny.

The group of friends going out as friends like they were back in college was a lot of fun. Especially to find out, Luiza had also wished or wanted her relationship with Valentina to work out, so she used some toads too.

I’m not sure what story or idioms is getting lost in translation here, but the gist was simply adorable. I imagine it would have made more sense in language.

But I’m still good with it.

Of course, no episode is complete without Luiza and Valentina undressing or having sex as soon as they’re able. My goodness.

Gotta love it.

And if you don’t believe that Leo is a mini Valentina, watch the pool scene.

I’ve watched it so many times. So many times. It was adorable and exactly how my relationship with my own dad was.

Another sweet scene of them dancing, because some things never change. No matter what.

And I’m very sorry, but the dance scene on stage was too much for me. Clearly, Reis is not a trained dancer and it shines through a bit too much for me. I’m so sorry, it’s the one thing that bugs me about this series.

Overall, I enjoyed this season and I can’t wait to see how Luiza and Valentina handle this unfortunate situation.
