Am I seeing double??
Nope.
That’s just someone who happens to look exactly like Xena, but is a princess of some kingdom… somewhere.
Honestly, who cares?
I don’t need specifics. Just entertaining moments when Xena is mistaken for Princess Diana by all the guards and the assassin and the friend of the princess.
Trust me, those are more than enough for me.
I loved the guy who is clearly in love with Diana noticing.
I loved Gabrielle not noticing right away and then picking up on it.
What are Test Days? Do we get to see more of those? How often does Xena spring pop quizzes on Gabrielle to see what she’s learned?
Like so often that Gabrielle is sick of them?
I loved her confidence too when she saw ‘Xena’ and thought this guy was in for it now.
Except he wasn’t. Because she ran away.
Which was hilarious!
I cannot commend Lucy Lawless enough for her acting skills here. I am simply amazed by how little details made Diana feel so completely separate to Xena. Especially, in that moment.
Lucy Lawless does an amazing job making herself seem larger than life. Appearing bigger than she actually is. So much so, that sometimes when I see her outside of the show, I’m surprised by how tiny she really is.
She’s not a buff or hulking woman.
She’s fairly average size.
But Xena seems larger than life itself at times.
Watching her mold herself into Diana, a smaller, frailer, girly girl type was impressive. Especially, stacking it up against Xena.
Even when everyone else is fooled and thinks they’ve switched back, Lawless does a flawless job of hinting something isn’t right. Every look, the walk, the way she holds herself, gives the vibe that something is off.
Enough, that I wasn’t completely fooled.
I suspected Xena hadn’t truly swapped back and had merely appeared so, just to lure the bad guys out.
And honestly, I love watching Xena fight in a wedding dress.
Alongside, Diana’s almost husband-to-be shouting about what kind of woman is he marrying and how he will not marry her.
Jeez, dude, take a chill pill.
You don’t want a badass woman who can defend herself?
Fine! Gabrielle will have her instead.
Once again though, we’re treated to Xena and Gabrielle separated for a period of time, and I don’t love this little habit we have here.
However, when all is said and done, at the end of the episode we have a small moment between them.
One where Gabrielle wishes to have someone look at her the way Diana’s husband is looking at his new bride.
TURN AROUND!
Seriously, Gabrielle, turn around in that moment. Look at the fond way Xena is staring at you. She’s already halfway there. If she thought for a moment, that you would grow up and like women, I think she’d trip over herself to offer herself up as tribute.
Damn.
Xena’s assurance that she will.
Despite that I think she already has and neither has truly noticed yet.
I loved the line about not being afraid to say something. Are you afraid Xena?
Are you hoping she’ll tell you first? Take the pressure off wondering whether or not Gabrielle is interested in women? Or you specifically?
Are you sure you want her to speak up? What if she speaks to the wrong person? Would you off them? Scare them away?
Are you willing to let her go?
I doubt it.
Your fond look on the steps and the fact that you let her tease you, proves she’s already wormed her way past your walls. Maybe you’re not in love yet. Maybe you don’t notice that you’re slowly falling off the cliff.
Either way, I think she’s too important for you to ever let go.
Or let anyone come between you.
Just saying.
Overall, I loved this episode.
It had all the crazy I want. Like the scene where Xena is pretending not to be doing all the work while fighting bad guys. Offering to eat the dog by mistake. Gabrielle teasing Xena. Xena enjoying the pampering while she could, while also hating it.
Diana learning a lesson. Argo’s tail has never looked better. I mean it, it shined. Xena wore clothes that did not suit her. We turned a harp into a weapon and destroyed some strings along the way.
The only thing I could ask for, is more time with Gabrielle and Xena sharing the damn screen. Please and thank you.
Oh, and apparently, neither Xena nor Diana were harmed while making this episode which is always good to know!
