NCIS: Hawai’i – Run and Gun

We’ve returned to Hawai’i in time for Tennant to return to work, Jesse to want to retire, and a body to drop on the beach.

My goodness, this was an opener of an episode.

One of which that – of course – ends on a cliffhanger. Seriously?

We just come back and already you’re leaving us hanging?

Anyway, as for the episode itself, it was awesome. Except for one thing – Too much Sam.

His lurking around and appearing whenever Tennant was, is extremely annoying. I approved of Tennant at least making him part of the action, making him less annoying to have around.

Because up until that point, I wanted to smack him.

No, I do not care how big he is or that he can kick my butt.

His presence was too much and I hope that they incorporate him better from now on so he doesn’t mess with the dynamic of the show too much. I enjoyed his time with Tennant during the crossover.

But I do not want him to be a focal point.

He had his own show.

This is not it. Please, let’s remember that.

I also did not like that he appeared to be spying on Tennant.

Which included trying to get information out of Jesse. Which – Jesse – didn’t go for in the slightest. Instead, he seemed put off.

I was as well.

He seemed like a friend, but now he’s acting two-faced.

Are you here to make sure Tennant is ready to be in the field or to spy on her and figure out whether or not she’s dirty? Wasn’t that the question at the end of last season? Whether or not Tennant was still shady from her time in the CIA?

Is it wise to get another former CIA operative to sus that out?

Is it wise to get Sam at all?

I didn’t watch LA for a reason.

Though Deeks and Kensi did do their best to convince me.

Anyway, outside of Sam and his too involved status of the episode, I loved it.

Tennant being rattled by what she went through was interesting. I can’t say I expected it.

I honestly thought with all her time in the CIA, she’d plow forward no matter what until she was fine again.

Which she is trying to do, but people around her make it harder than when she was in the CIA.

The little moment between her and Alex on the phone was sweet. I’m glad to see he’s not completely gone from the show now that he’s moved on to college. I’m super excited to see how that unfolds.

Jesse getting overwhelmed by being in charge was on brand for him. I loved this continuing thread. He’s happy where he is in the food chain. He wants to be Tennant’s number two, no more, no less.

Something he’s excellent at.

He covered everything for her, and watched her back when it appeared someone was sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong.

Now, for my favorite part of the episode and the entire reason I checked out this series in the first place, Kacy!

Kate and Lucy showed up in full force together in this episode like they do every time we open a new season for this show.

They were extra cute as Lucy was jealous over Kate’s relationship to Kai.

Also, Kate, I think Lucy was more worried that Kai would like you better than the other way around. I’m fairly certain the fact that he’s male, means you’ll never like him as much as you like Lucy.

Lucy wanting to eat something she hates just to be involved was too cute.

So cute, I think people on Tumblr had it right that Tori Anderson broke character for a moment and laughed during the scene.

Then – of course – as I am a highly food driven person, I am with Lucy. Why didn’t anyone get lunch?

Jesse! Dude! Aren’t they allowed to eat?

The sudden disappearance of Kate and Kai returning to work only added to the humor.

Then we have Lucy getting jealous once again as Kate appears with food. Not for her, but for Ernie this time. Though Lucy first thought she was bringing food for Kai.

She even tried to flirt her way into getting some.

Alas, Kate was not falling for it.

The entire thing was hilarious and only topped by Kate’s scene with Ernie.

I love how the team has accepted Kate.

Kate who lived in fear of people finding out in season one, openly kissed, and flirted with her girlfriend in the middle of the office. Way to go, Kate!

This is some of the finest growth.

Then her conversation with Ernie was cute and sweet. And while sometimes Ernie being blunt gets him into trouble, here he came off as sweet. I also loved his comment that he did have a genius assistant but the FBI doesn’t let her come to play often.

I think I’ve said this before, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Kate does end up joining NCIS at some point. She’s incredibly valuable to them.

I simply adore these little moments and I hope there are more to come in this shortened season.

I think we’ve all earned it after the wait!
