Back To School Supply List

1. Backpack

We can’t go back to school without a backpack! Not at all! Where would we put our snacks? Our books? And weigh us down when things get a bit sticky.

Not to mention, it tells the whole world about your personality!

Your favorite TV show or movie or book series, a funny saying, and maybe it’s dark and edgy. Either way, it’s how you’ll be spotted all year long.

2. Pencils

Can’t write anything the teacher says if you don’t have a writing utensil.

And for some reason we’re awfully concerned about what you’re using during tests in high school or no pens during the years prior.

Why? Who knows?

Not me!

A number 2 pencil is the only way to go. Not that I’ve ever seen a number 1. Have you?

3. Sneakers

Shoes!

Another way to tell the world who you are! Do you come to school rocking the new kicks? Do you wear the same ones from last year?

Have you outgrown your favorites and have been forced into a new pair yet?

How long before you’re no longer concerned about getting them dirty?

4. Bulletproof Vest

Things have changed.

I didn’t have this on my list when I went to school. But no one should be without one in this day and age.

I suppose it’s another way to show the world who you are.

Maybe they come in an assortment of colors. Who knows?

5. Crayons

I do not care what grade you’re going in to.

Crayons are a must.

We all need a coloring break from time to time.

6. New Clothes

Let’s sport the latest and greatest styles as we head back to school.

Clothes that we have to keep clean and tidy until October when Mom stops caring.

Then we customize and color on our jeans when we’re bored.

7. Emergency Whistle

Another great way to stay safe!

Or get caught!

Or annoy your friends during recess by screeching the whistle in their ears when they aren’t looking.

8. Lunchbox

My mom used to tell me every year when we bought a new lunchbox about how they used to be metal.

And when the boys were mean to her, she’d hit them in the head with it.

It was dented by the end of the year.

Then she’d tell me never to do that, even though mine were soft sided. I think she was worried for the boys in my classes.

Ah, memories.

9. Hand Sanitizer

Yet another way the world changed.

I used to get sent to school and it would just be accepted that I’d come home ill and be out for a week. That school was a petri dish.

Now, we all have to do everything we can to keep germs from spreading.

10. Notebooks

How else will we pass notes to each other?

Or vaguely write down whatever the teacher says.

Doodle.

We need a whole dozen of them.

My mom used to find the ones for a dime and buy so many it took years after I graduated to finish using them all.
