Welcome all book and movie lovers!
Every month, I’m going to post a new feature on the second Tuesday of the month, talking about whether or not the book or the movie/tv show adaptation is better or worse!
Tuesday because that’s the day new books come out and the second Tuesday of the month, because I felt like it.
It’s my blog and I’ll be weird if I want to!
Except this one because it’s coming out on Percy’s birthday!
So, for starters, we’re going to talk about my favorite book series and quite possibly one of the worst adaptations ever. Ever!
Rick Riordan actually read the script for this movie and emailed them back to say that his fans would hate this.
He’s not wrong.
I hate it.
It would be a fine movie if the book never existed or if you never read it, and don’t plan on reading it. Ever.
Seriously.
Who read the original book and thought this movie was a good idea?
Percy is the wrong age.
He’s already 16 which is the age of the prophecy in the book when the whole world is supposed to be either saved or destroyed.
Instead, the prophecy isn’t even mentioned.
Nor the pact among the Big Three.
The trip across country isn’t right.
Percy hearing from his father is wrong.
No one explained why Gabe is there.
The cabins at the camp aren’t right.
He already knows who his father is unlike the book when he learns it by accident during a game of capture the flag. And his father most definitely did not design a cabin for him.
The gods do not give a damn about their children.
That was kind of the point! Hello?
Try reading the source material.
Not to mention the weird tension between Percy and Annabeth that was not there because they’re supposed to be 12! They’re supposed to become friends! Reluctant friends, but friends, and then slowly fall in love.
What in the world was this?
Logan Lerman was a good choice. I’ll give you that, except he’s too old.
The journey to getting the orbs was weird and not right.
Persephone isn’t even supposed to be in the Underworld because it’s the wrong time of year.
Never mind seeing the gods in their true forms.
No, just no!
If you can’t follow the source material that made it great in the first place, don’t even bother.
People flocked to this series because it’s good. Well-written, well paced, and done by someone who cared and put thought into his book.
The movie was slapped together to rival Harry Potter and it never would because you didn’t even try!
You missed the point!
The entire story!
Everything!
Argh!
Nothing and no adaptation irk me more than this version. Truly a terrible attempt.
Please, let this series coming out for Percy do much better. Please!

Spread the love and read on!
