I have many thoughts about this episode of Stupid Wife.
Starting with Luiza avoiding the divorce conversation like bullets in the Matrix. Damn.
I have to give her credit for managing to hold off Valentina for so long about that conversation because you can clearly see when Valentina is first shown in this episode, she’s resolved herself to talk to Luiza. She needs this conversation to happen or she’ll never get up the nerve.
While I am a little annoyed with Luiza for manipulating the situation.
Here we see her use Valentina’s feelings for her against her, knowing if she can put it off long enough, she can escape this.
Overall, I don’t think Luiza was malicious in her choice to manipulate Valentina, so it doesn’t ruin the episode for me.
I say that, because we can see Luiza’s struggling here.
At the picnic, I thought she was reverting when she mentioned being married to Valentina, but when I watched it again, combined with the BTS. I had a different thought.
On top of losing her memory, she has a wife to contend with.
And for the first time last episode, she sees Valentina as a person with her own thoughts and feelings about the situation. She is hurt and crushed by her wife not remembering their life together.
Now, she’s trying to navigate her own feelings about the situation, while trying to take Valentina into account.
One of the things I loved was I noticed Luiza giving Valentina everything she wanted the night before.
I think in realizing that Valentina is a person. She realized her wife is a good person.
When Valentina was invading her space, it wasn’t to make her uncomfortable or get something from Luiza. It was just normal to her.
Valentina is used to being in her wife’s space. It’s a habit. Not an attempt to force a relationship on her.
So here we see her give a little to see what happens.
Luiza says good morning kindly, gives her a hip bump, kisses her on the cheek, jokes around with her, and even gives her a hug goodnight.
With some physical contact and normalcy, Valentina actually manages to keep her distance. She doesn’t push or ask for more than Luiza can give.
And I think Luiza finally felt comfortable with her.
I think she realized Valentina wasn’t intentionally showing her videos of them kissing or having sex to start something or push for something. They were just like that. Something I realized too, because I thought Valentina was trying to evoke feelings in her wife’s body since her mind has forgotten.
But now, now I realize these two were just always horny for each other.
I think Luiza noticed it too.
Combined with Valentina not wanting to take advantage while she was drunk and admitting to her brother she just misses the little things with her wife.
Not sex and kissing.
Things Luiza might not be ready for with everything going on and where her mind is stuck.
Also, part of me thought Luiza might be clinging to Valentina because she’s afraid to be alone without her memories.
But after rewatching this, I realized Duda was right.
She’s falling for her wife again.
She put her ring on, she committed to being nicer, and caring for her wife. To trying to take a step.
I think Luiza has seen Valentina won’t push beyond her boundaries if she knows where they are. Knows what her wife wants.
And she realizes she can take this as fast or slow as she wants, if she finally grows up and confesses she’s attracted to her wife and wants her too.
I doubt Valentina would divorce her, if she knew there was hope.
Which is why she doesn’t push the conversation too hard.
She takes what she’s given.
And embraces Luiza’s curiosity about her and their life together.
The first time I watched this episode I was shocked that Luiza has been living with this woman for who knows how long now, and doesn’t know she’s not a lawyer. Like, did you try to get to know her?
No. She didn’t. And that was part of the problem.
Here, she gets a close-up look at the talent Valentina posesses and how much she loves her.
Her wife has an entire corner of her studio dedicated to her.
Valentina declares she’s the sexiest model she’s ever photographed.
And Luiza questions the validity of Duda’s proclamation of their sex life.
Which once again reenforces the idea that Valentina wasn’t trying to cross boundaries. She’s just not used to them anymore.
This whole episode was amazing.
I loved the picnic scene.
Valentina being a goof with her son and wife. Luiza laughing along with them. The cute adventure in the park.
Even Luiza’s slip-up.
She’s not just worried about herself anymore. She has a wife to worry about adding a layer of complication to the mix, making her recovery complicated.
Oh, and for some reason the moment Luiza said ‘our baby is asleep’ warms my chest every time.
This episode felt like Luiza was truly embracing their lives together and wants to make it work if they can. She wants Valentina in her life.
The balcony scene was heart wrenchingly beautiful.
Buiar and Reis killed it!
There was so much emotion and pain and hurt and love in that moment. Balancing all of those emotions into that scene was fine acting.
You could feel Valentina’s desperation and exhaustion. She wants to believe her wife, but she’s been hurt so much now.
You could feel the regret and desperation not to let Valentina leave without a fight from Luiza.
And underneath it all were two women who were deeply conflicted over their relationship, but still feel a pull to each other.
Wonderfully done to the actresses, the writers, and directors.
It was stunning!
