Okay, I cannot stress enough how much I came to this show for Kate and Lucy.
Yes, I stayed because I loved the show as a whole, because all the characters are wonderfully written. As is the show.
However, at the end of the day, I’m here for Kacy.
And the reunion episode did not disappoint!
I think I watched the released clip over and over for hours the day it was released, unable to keep from spoiling the episode from me. Everything about the moment was beyond perfect for me.
We even got to learn new things about the characters which is amazing. Sometimes, we do not get enough tidbits of information.
So, learning that when Kate comes back from a run she drinks straight from the bottle and this apparently a conversation that she and Lucy have had before was awesome. I loved Kate’s little defense too. Like it made it okay because she wasn’t supposed to be home until tomorrow.
Uh, Kate. That was nearly a full jug. Meaning Lucy would be home and it would still be in the fridge.
So… She kinda has a point.
But I loved her little wiggle and the hand-holding as they reunited, like they were unable to mere inches from each other now that they were back together.
Loved it.
And, Lucy is the background putting away the pan while Kate has a mild attack that she’s home a day early and the party was supposed to be tomorrow and she can’t even tell the team because she wants to let Lucy have her fun. You could see all those thoughts racing through her head as she stood there.
Well done by Tori!
Then we’re off to the offices.
Where Tennant has a baby.
I’ll be honest, I completely forgot that kid existed until Tennant explained. I saw the clip and kept thinking where did that baby come from?!
So, that was funny.
Then everyone has no idea how to react.
Lucy is home. She’s standing in front of them. A. Day. Early.
All the actors here did a great job.
Tennant rolled with it. Lucy is here, got to keep moving forward on the case, the party, and hope we can pull it off.
Jesse and Kai – meanwhile – fell to pieces!
Neither of these two dopes could act like normal human beings around Lucy while trying to keep a secret! Kate may have been the one to tell Lucy, but they were the reason why!
Those two dopes made Lucy feel bad! Like she was no longer a member of their team.
They couldn’t get their excuses together. They couldn’t act like her friends while trying to keep a lid on it. I’m not saying this was bad. Because I think they knew it was bad, but didn’t know how to get off this crazy train, and were just trying to plow through until the party.
Then they figured the party would prove they did miss and love her and all would be good!
In the meantime, they don’t see Lucy pouting at the dinner table pushing her food around looking like someone kicked her puppy because her friends, her family wouldn’t make time for her.
No, Kate has to deal with sad puppy Lucy.
And she can’t!
For all of season one, Kate was a big reason that Lucy was happy and sad. She watched Lucy cry and get upset in front of her time and time again knowing she was the cause. Knowing she couldn’t fix it.
In the last episode, she promised she would do everything differently this time.
Season two has been filled with Kate reassuring Lucy at every turn. That they’re good. That she’s there for her. That she wants the world to know. That she loves her.
So, at dinner she tries to reason away the guys’ reactions. She hopes to quell the sadness but it doesn’t work because it did sound and seem like a blow-off from the boys.
Honestly, when watching this scene for the first time, I didn’t expect Kate to just tell her!
Then again, I don’t think Kate meant to either.
The look on her face after she said it, was priceless. I loved it. Then she just kept going. Explaining that the party was for the next day because that was when she was supposed to be home and they couldn’t do it earlier.
But, don’t worry! We’re still having it.
Kate’s such a dork.
I love it.
I love Lucy, loving on her dork.
She realizes Kate confessed because she couldn’t watch Lucy be so sad. Someone whose former job was to protect the intel! Kate took pleasure in it.
Until Lucy.
Then she can’t bear her girlfriend’s sadness.
Also, who else called it when Lucy said they’d never know the difference that her team would know immediately? Cause I totally did.
Terrible actress.
How did she successfully go undercover?
You know what? I don’t care.
It was so much fun to watch the team’s faces when Lucy walked in and tried to be surprised. They knew it was Kate instantly who blew it.
Also, Tennant’s face may have been one of my two favorites at the party. The other was Jesse who just turned accusing onto Kate.
“Whistler.” He just knew. Lucy batted those eyes and she caved.
Basically.
And no one cares. Least of all Kate.
It was such a good episode in terms of getting these two back. The plot was good too, but I lived for the moments in between with the characters.
I loved that Ernie was more than capable of welcoming Lucy back without being all weird. I loved that he loved his gift because as far as he was concerned, the real gift was Lucy. His relationship to Lucy is so sweet and wonderful.
He was so excited to see her, the case was forgotten.
Tennant didn’t even care that they weren’t focused on work because she was happy to have her team, her family together again.
It truly was a sweet episode.
Kudos to the actors and actresses for making it so wonderful. Yasmine mentioned in an interview that the vibe from the party was how it felt to come back. That everyone was so happy to see her.
And you could feel it throughout the episode.
I said it before, Tennant is the soul of this show, but Lucy is the heart. She brings a sweetness and a goofiness and brings it out in everyone around her. It’s perfect.
