Spread The Love – ATM

Has anyone ever been to an outdoor hut of an ATM from like Bank of America?

Well, there’s one in my town that’s stuck smack dab in the middle of shopping center type thing. The shops aren’t connected and there’s a mall there too. It’s basically a shopping center though.

Anyway!

I had to stop there to get some money out.

This one is always busy, but it was the closest to me. So, I stopped there and get in the socially distanced line. There’s two people in front of me and one in the hut itself.

The gentleman in front of me is chatting away on the phone. The woman in front of him, is doing a dance of impatience in the windy day.

It’s all perfectly normal.

Someone else walks up.

I recognize the smock this younger person is wearing from the grocery store in this center. In my brain, I’m thinking, damn, she’s probably on break or lunch or something. That sucks. I’m going to let her go in front of me to save some time.

Just as this worker from the grocery store arrived the lady in front of the guy and I went into the hut.

We wanted a minute or two.

Inside, the woman was wrapping it up and the guy in front of me pops an earbud out and looks at the grocery store worker.

He asked her if she’s on break and she nods. He tells her to go ahead.

She’s shocked and hesitates and he insists.

The lady inside comes out and the worker goes in thanking him profusely for saving her time. He just shrugs and realizes I was behind him. He turns around and I smiled, nodding along that he’s a gentleman.

He smiles and shrugs.

We continue to wait our turns.

I know it’s small, but it made me smile, and I hope it makes you smile too because I bet it wasn’t small to her.

For the record, both in this story and in the one before, all the people are black. I try my damnest not to look at or think about skin color, but it’s a part of our worlds. And I want the world to know, that if you’re picturing white people here.

Stop.

These kind souls were black and I feel it’s important to make note of it.

If I’m wrong I’ll admit it.
