Well, well, well, the day has arrived!
It looks like our ship has finally come in and Lucy Tara will once again be gracing our screens tonight!
Who’s excited?!
I’m excited! One of my favorite couples will (hopefully) be returning to our screens weekly for our enjoyment and this long stretch without them will finally come to an end.
Please, someone ask Yasmine to never have to leave for reshoots of a show again.
NCIS: Hawai’i isn’t the same with Lucy Tara nor without Kacy.
Here are 13 reasons in 13 moments as to why you should be shipping Kacy if you’re not already and if you’re not, what are you doing?
(I chose 13 because 13 is my lucky number.)
While a grand gesture does not fix all the problems or miscommunications that may have taken place during a relationship, this one was perfect.
It was perfect because Lucy spent a good chunk of season one not letting Kate talk after their break-up.
Singing out her feelings for the smaller woman forced Lucy to finally hear what Kate wanted to say. Not to mention, it did prove Kate wanted to do things differently this time because she did it in front of everyone. She proved with actions and words that this time, this time would be different.
2. Kate and Lucy Demonstrate Knowing Each Other
Ernie not so subtly asking about their relationship was absolutely adorable and I appreciate his vocalization of what the audience wants! And we wanted to know in the season two opener how their relationship had progressed since they got back together.
I love that they admit that were still learning things about each other. It’s one of the best things to display intimacy.
There’s nothing like being known.
3. Lucy’s Reminisce of Their Meeting
Oh, come on! That was so adorable!
The only thing that could have made that scene better was a flashback to see it play out. However, if we had that we wouldn’t have been able to see Lucy’s face which was oh so very important!
Lucy’s face in this scene reveals she’s not over Kate.
She hasn’t been over Kate since they met. Those three days and two nights meant so much to her and she wanted and waited for Kate for so long only to have everything shatter.
It revealed how much Kate got under her skin and into her heart.
This scene was hot!
There are no two ways about it!
But it was undeniably perfect! I knew going into this show that these two had some kind of romance brewing, but I didn’t expect it in episode one! Nor did I expect it to be so in my face right away. Not like that!
I didn’t expect them to get to play a major role with other characters acknowledging and being part of the storyline in a well-rounded way.
The first kiss was a shock to the system in the best way! Not to mention it’s hot and reveals these two who have been bickering this episode have already hooked up and have a past! It got me so hooked I binged the show.
Pardon the drooling. Mine or Lucy’s, it really doesn’t matter.
The scene is so good! In today’s world we’re afraid to accidentally oversexualize lesbians or women on women scenes for a multitude reasons. (Too many to get into here.) That sometimes it seems like a F/F relationship aren’t sexually attracted to each other.
Here, we got to see Lucy drooling and gay panicking through trying to talk to Kate with she’s in a swimsuit. So much so, she has to verbally reset herself.
We even get to see Kate know and understand that Lucy is flustered by the skin on display.
Jealousy is normal and healthy if acknowledged and understood. It can help you learn and grow.
Here we have Lucy learn that she still has feelings for Kate and they are not going anywhere. She gets jealous when Kate compliments a Russian operative, to the point where Ernie calls her out.
The whole scene is adorable and ridiculous because we as the audience know Lucy could kiss Kate at any time and resume their relationship. That’s all Kate wants. Not to mention, Kate is seemingly oblivious to the jealousy Lucy displays. She almost seems to write it off as impossible because Lucy has been avoiding her like the plague and dating other people.
Kate is clearly jealous when she tells Ernie she knows Lucy is dating someone named Skylar. She even knows where Skylar lives. And while this ventures into dangerous territory with that knowledge.
Kate is more resigned to her fate, that she’ll never have Lucy again. While Lucy’s jealousy is played for laughs. Kate’s is utilized in acknowledging how badly she screwed up and how much she wants to make it right.
It’s a sort of scene we can all relate to.
In this entire episode we learn a lot about Kate, but here we learn so much. We learn exactly how alone she truly is and feels. Her life, her job don’t make things easy. She’s always the bad guy, like she had to do with the team.
And it wears on her.
Then Lucy reveals her understanding. She doesn’t think Kate is bad. Their jobs conflict, but she doesn’t love being the ‘mean girl’ like they thought. When she can help, she comes through. Sending the bus filled with FBI displayed her depth of caring she hadn’t to the team before.
She revealed wanting to help, but it’s not really her job. Her job hinders that.
And then Lucy invites her for a beer and Kate realizes she has someone who understands her. Someone who wants her outside work. Someone she’s been pushing away.
And decides to take a leap.
As awful as this scene is, Tori and Yasmine kill it. I’ve watched it so many times now I’ve lost count.
This moment is so raw and filled with emotions… It’s perfect.
Even though they break-up.
Kate’s desperation to explain and try to reason her way out of this situation she’s created is palpable.
Meanwhile, Lucy trying to remain disaffected until Kate leaves and she starts to cry is amazing. She’s trying so hard to keep it together. To pretend this didn’t shatter her heart. To pretend, Kate wasn’t the first person she thought of sharing good news with.
Kate’s utter sadness at finding her person only to destroy it by not being honest with Cara and Lucy is filled with a potent hopelessness.
I’ve never seen a couple find more issues by not clearly communicating with each other!
From the first conversation in the morning to the bullpen to the final moment at Kate’s (soon to be theirs) apartment was a series of not saying the hard thing. Not admitting what they want. Not just being honest!
The final scene is my favorite because Lucy just goes for broke. She admits she wants Kate to want her and that she didn’t tell her sooner because she was afraid of pressuring Kate.
A very true moment for a couple as they navigate their still relatively new relationship. It’s perfect.
In the episode where Kate goes undercover, more is revealed about her brother’s death and how it affected Kate’s perception of the world. At the end of the episode without prompting from Lucy, Kate follows through on talking about it later once they stopped the maids.
She reveals that what she said about closing herself off was true, but Lucy has been helping her unknowingly open up again.
Despite still miscommunicating in the future, I loved that Kate followed through on her word.
She told Lucy they could talk later, and she did. She brought it up without Lucy asking again and revealed something hard for her. Without her brother, she lost the part of herself that allowed her to connect and let people get close to her.
Now, with Lucy she’s learning and wants to reopen that part of herself again.
12. “I want to tell my boss about us.”
Kate has clearly closed herself off and isn’t comfortable with people seeing her for who she is. She struggles to be herself and show the world that.
But in season two and moments like this, we see Kate make an active choice to do the scary thing, and be open.
She decides to tell her boss the truth no matter the consequences. Even is she’s the NCIS liaison anymore, even if he has something against gay people.
She chooses to be brave. And that’s huge character growth for her.
The start of this scene cracks me up.
Kate tracks down Lucy since she hasn’t answered her texts, is all out of character, and adorably Kate notices right away. She askes what’s wrong and Lucy just straight says she was avoiding her.
I remember watching the sneak peek and thinking, Lucy, I wouldn’t have phrased it that way.
This scene is pure joy to me, because most shows would continue to play out the secret drama. A total bullshit move. But here, Lucy owns up to the truth.
She and Kate talk!
Like the adults they’re supposed to be!
It’s amazing!
And when the conversation is cut short, Lucy reassures her girlfriend that she doesn’t plan on making any decisions without talking to her first. That they will talk more later. She tells her she loves her before rushing off and Kate is visibly relieved.
Kate and Lucy are not perfect.
No relationship is.
But healthy doesn’t mean perfect. It means trying to do the best and even when things go wrong or you miscommunicate, you work it out without freaking out or pointing fingers.
Kate here keeps her emotions in check and asks Lucy to explain. She does get upset over the thought of Lucy choosing to do something she hates rather than share the island with Kate while they were apart. But she doesn’t get mad at Lucy.
She’s hurt. But she understood things were different during that time.
Lucy reassures her perfectly.
She tells Kate, her feelings on the matter have changed. Now, she’s not sure she wants to go because it means leaving Kate behind. She explains herself and her feelings then and now. She calmly tells her girlfriend that nothing has been decided and she wants to talk it out with her.
I love this scene because they talk. About their feelings, good and bad. It’s not resolved, but they’re not left feeling uncertain about each other’s feelings when they walk away.
Their mutual understanding they’ll decide what Lucy does together helps them both think it over separately, allowing them to come to conclusions together later.
Utterly, wonderful.
