HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!
I know I’m a little late, but hey – better late than never!
For Pride Month I decided to talk about some of my favorite things! From queer couples, to books, to fun things that have happened in my daily life.
So buckle up!
And enjoy the rainbow!
First things first, my first topic on the list is a newly discovered, well newly interested in couple from Station 19 Maya and Carina!
I did know of this couple when they first got together years ago, but when I saw the show they were on was a spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy I ran for the hills. I had tried years before to get into the show because I liked Callie and Arizona but the ups and downs, the cheating, the break-ups. I hate ridiculous and unnecessary drama.
And that show? Is filled to the brim with it.
So, I avoided the couple.
Until… back in January I went through some tough personal issues, and I needed something to watch on TV where if I didn’t watch it again because it reminded me of those tough things I wouldn’t mind. I also figured those shows tended to make me miserable anyway, might as well watch them when I was already sad.
Truth be told, Station 19, specifically Maya and Carina helped me get through some tough grief and I appreciate them for it.

Personal details aside, one of the things I truly love about this couple is being able to see their pasts.
Carina was in a relationship prior to this with Arizona, we can see it plain as day.
Maya dated many people, but her most serious relationship outside of Carina was Jack.
And I love this because we get to see that these two really are perfect for each other even though they were never written to be together. It was a happy accident due to a change in story and wanting to bring the two shows closer.
Both Maya and Carina struggle with difficult and abusive fathers. Their relationships to their younger brothers are strained due to their childhood. And they are both passionate about their jobs.
They truly desire helping people.
But I also love their differences.
Carina is not completely career driven. She loves to live her life and be free. She wants love and family. She let her terrible childhood make her kind.
Maya let her childhood make her hard and cold, letting success be the only thing about herself. Until she realized love isn’t something you should earn through success.
I also loved that going back and watching them before they met, you could tell they would be a match for each other. Neither of them are shy when it comes to their sex lives, they show no shame about it either, which I love endlessly, and would love to feel for myself sometimes!
They are incredibly stubborn and speak their minds.
As for once their together I love that Maya’s hard shell melts bit by bit when she’s with Carina. She brings her walls down by choice and tries every day to be better.
Carina also gets the stability she hasn’t had since she was a kid. Maya is a very steady, sure, dependable person. She likes to be organized and have everything together. She is a perfect foil for someone who has never had anyone take care of her before.
And we see that when Carina loses her brother.
Maya steps up and does the whole list to make it easier for Carina.
She took time off from work. She didn’t push. She was there, when no one else was. Not even her own father.
I love that the two of them are a committed force.
I love that Carina stands up for Maya when no one else will. I love her pushback against Sullivan because she knows he’s playing a game and she’s on to him.
But I also love the small domestic moments between them because that’s the shit I live for!
Give me all the small moments when Maya comes home from work and smiles lovingly at her sleepy in bed wife and gives her a kiss to wake her up. I love that Maya knows the color of Carina’s toothbrush and Carina is clueless about the color of her wife’s.
The moment when Carina makes her wife coffee to take to work and fills it with milk even though that goes against her very being. Maya coming to the defense of the kitchen when her friends are over because so help me my girlfriend will flip if you touch her stuff.
The subtle touches when they’re in the same room. Brushing their teeth at the same time. Having their clothes in the same locker.
Honestly, that kind of comfort and sharing is my favorite type of relationship. Please TV writers, give it to me more!
Also, I could go on and on about these two. Not to mention the wonderful actresses who bring them to life with their kindness. I wish them the very best of life.
Please, let me know what you think about this wonderful couple!
Spread the love!
And keep on reading!
