SPREAD THE LOVE!

SPREAD THE LOVE!

Ah. I can do that all day. Or at least until everyone adopts it into their lifestyle. What do you think?

Recently, I’ve seen hate reach levels I honestly hoped were long forgotten in the pages of history. Time and time again there’s been hate amongst people for many things. Consult your history books for starters.

People have been oppressed for many reasons throughout the years. For the color of their skin. For the way they talk. For the religion they follow. For their race. For they way they think. For who they love.

Growing up reading history books I have read countless times about a group of people, singling another group out considering them wrong for who knows what.

In all honesty, I have never reached these levels of prosecution myself. I’ve been teased for how I dress or how I looked growing up. I am a tomboy myself. It doesn’t fall on the same level but I tried not to let it bother me.

Maybe it did on some level. Maybe there is a part of me that wondered growing up if I was wrong for wearing boys’ clothes instead of girls’.

But this isn’t about me.

Lately, I’ve felt immersed in hate and controversy as I navigate through the world. TV shows afraid to take certain roads because fans will be up in arms. Other TV shows uncaring and putting the ugly truth out there for all the world to see. There’s a lot of hate in the world right now. It’s on the news. It’s part of our TV shows. It’s part of our daily lives in the world.

I promised I wouldn’t get too political here and I maintain that. This isn’t a forum for politics or venting.

No.

As of late I’ve been watching Netflix’s original show One Day at a Time. I watched their season two opener about bullying, racism, and it’s affect on people.

The actresses and actors did an incredible job helping the audience to understand it’s not just morally wrong to bully someone for race or the color of their skin or the language they speak. It’s not about a politic problem. It’s not about the social conduct.

It’s about the person dealing with these bullies.

One person said something awful about another person and hurt their feelings. Made them feel small, ostracized, and wrong for being who they are.

We’re all people. We’re all trying to get through life. We all have our own problems.

Why make it harder for the people around you?

What does it do?

Nothing. Not a damn thing.

So, today, in honor of doing my own part to make the world fractionally better I’ve decided to spread the love. I hope to inspire others to spread good things out into the world.

So, for everyone who reads this I want you to stop and do one thing for me the next time you consider calling someone a name, saying hateful things, or using your valuable time and energy on something to make others angry or feel miserable or bad about themselves.

Stop, take a deep breath, and let it out. Then think about what your doing. Would you want someone to do that to you? To your children? To your parents? Your friends?

We all have a right to our opinion. We all have a right to believe whatever we wish.

There is no need to make someone feel bad about their beliefs or their lives. It is their life and if it does not hurt you or anyone else: Why argue the point? Why make them feel badly? Would you want someone doing it to you?

I am a firm believer in people’s rights to choose their own lives, live them the way they wish. I may not agree but it’s not my choice.

Choose love over more hate. The world has enough of it already. Don’t you think? Let’s add a little more happiness, joy, and smiles to the world. Those seem to be in short supply.

From now on, I plan to do my best to Spread The Love!

I’m going to add to this little column whenever the mood hits or if I see a random act of kindness or if I perform one. Hopefully, it’ll inspire others to follow suit.

Thanks for your time!
